Frank Lampard Starting Today .....

Only Lampard himself knows exactly when he will report. But the idea of his taking two months off -- all of June and July -- and reporting in August is what I have been assuming since he got extended at Man City.

While we're all eager to have our best and most important player, we have to understand that he simply must have a rest.

People who say that he doesn't need a rest because he didn't play that much at Man City are apparently unaware that football clubs train all week, and that all players named on the substitutes list must be prepared to play. So it's from this daily training regimen alone that Lampard will need a significant amount of rest, if we want him to be able to contribute once he gets out there for us.
Villa is a better player than Lampard.

It won't be August. PL players get, I think, 6 weeks mandated holiday time off after their last game of the season, which I believe can be reduced to four with the agreement of club and player. I don't believe MCFC's post-season tour counts, but even if it does, he would be returning to training in about the second week of July and could agree to cut his holiday short and return at the very start of July, which I would like to see happen given he only has to play a further four months of competitive football before his next off-season, but who knows. That's assuming I'm right on all this. Either way, I can't see it being all the way til August.

He must be a Lampard plant.....;)

I have said a few times that I am a Chelsea fan; and, next to Drogba, Lampard is my favourite player. When his signing by NYCFC was announced, this showed that the team was serious. I felt that this meant that the time was right to start paying attention to MLS. The new club was summoning me -- it was summoning all Chelsea fans and other Premier League fans.

Of course I was surprised and disappointed when it was announced that Lampard was staying at Man City for their whole season. But I was not outraged, because it was easy to understand the reasoning on both their parts, as the Premier League and Champions League are more important than MLS. And throw in the fact that the early part of the MLS season is almost meaningless.

Now that Man City's season is almost over, I have only excitement about NYCFC (even if I am losing confidence in the coach -- which is a whole other thread). Our attack is going to look a lot different once the team's best player, and the global face of the league, is in there.

Look on the bright side your waiting for lampard and other teams are waiting for rob ernshaw and Kevin Doyle I know which one I'd take
No, they're not waiting. They're there contributing.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Kevin doyle is packing his bags for the USA this evening. The Ireland striker has agreed a settlement with Wolves to release him from his contract which was due to run up until the end of June.

Global face of the league? When did we sign Kaka?

Kaka's stature is close to that of Lampard's. But, considering the fact that Kaka had declined a bit while Lampard is still at the top of his game (which is the reason for the delay in his arrival), Lampard is the bigger symbol of the league.

When it comes to global superstars who have been in MLS, Beckham is in a class by himself. Lampard is on the next rung down, along with Henry. The rung below is where you'd place Kaka, alongside Gerrard and Villa.

Lampard is the reigning king. Only if rumours of Ronaldinho coming to the league are true would Lampard be surpassed as the global face of the league.

At the top of his game as you say..... Yet he has only started 5 games for MC all year!!!!! Clearly you have your own definition of "at the top of his game". Using the same rationale you use for his staying at MC this year don't you think they would have resigned him if he was "at the top of his game"? We all want him and the team to do well but top of his game???" C'mon...... Even you really can't believe that........

The Legend of Liverpool nixed that idea during his post match interview today........
Stevie me confirmed he will train with Liverpool during December and will play again when they send out an SOS for him..wouldn't be surprised if he's offered the managers/no2 job at this point

Purely as a footballer Beckham wouldn't get anywhere near a top 100 English players,he was a brand/celebrity that could play football.
To say lampard is at the top of his game
is wrong that was probably 6/7 years ago.frank has been playing at the highest level still but his form since Xmas has been declining rapidly.
In their absolute prime henry would just be ahead of lampard, but kaka had a small period at Milan where he was the best in the world

Lampard just made a fantastic attacking pass for the hockey assist on MCFC's second goal. And was in perfect position to tap in an easy goal had Milner centered the ball. Guy's still got it, no matter how much you hate him.

Yes, we'll definitely win the MLS cup.

Well, one problem we seem to have right now with our squad is vision. Lampard, even if he can't run as fast or shoot as well as he used to, still has excellent vision. I expect that our passing percentage and chance creation will increase *significantly* once Lampard hits the pitch. And I imagine we'll be treated to a half-season of brilliant 1-2s between Villa and Lampard. Honestly, the vision and experience of our star DPs will likely be our best asset; not necessarily their physicality.

How old will Lampard be for next season again? Talk about underwhelming.

Would you be happier with some of the past it championship players that some of the other teams are bringing in then ?
The list is growing by the day of bang average to crap players the mls is importing from the UK.
