Did you see the deflection? Granted, it wasn’t an impossible save but I thought excusable at least. I also think Ring has been pretty active.

Was watching some highlights. so weird to see mata in something other than our jersey. he played a nice assist into lucho but then was caught not getting back on nashville's 1st goal. ah.. that's why we let him go ... but right now, we replaced him with someone worse... so

excited for the league to restart. sad that OUR restart wasn't anything to be excited or happy about. *grumble grumble*

i think people are looking at the cinci game as going to be a cakewalk. i'm actually a little worried we're going to get blown away.

matan getting his first few minutes for columbus...

already puts more effort in than mitri did all of 2020. lol.

Watched about half of the Columbus v Philly game. Three things I observed:
1. The crew looked a little dirty. A good deal of elbow throwing and Diaz nasty with his spikes.
2. In comparison to NYCFC this weekend both teams looked way more “in tune”.
3. I’ve really liked watching Philly play over the last couple seasons. It’s nice soccer. Very creative in the final third and dynamic build up.

i agree with all 3 points. philly's identity and style is apparent and their players are creative and visibly "hungry" to make something happen. It is a night and day difference vs watching our guys, who look like they're playing pub league.

granted, both crew and philly had more weeks of preseason and two CCL games under their belt, but they looked solid in their CCL games too. In other words, they did actual preparation in preseason. I place that lack of preparation on ronny. it's his job to demand better. it's his job to make sure everyone is in shape. Rust and lack of rhythm is going to happen in early season games, but being tired should not.

I got a good deal on the Athletic ($1a month). It’s a nice source. There is an article on DC United’s new coach. Might explain the difference on Saturday. Here’s an excerpt:

The weeks that have followed have made recent United pre-seasons look like a vacation. Losada, D.C.’s first new coach in a decade, hasn’t just busied himself overhauling the club’s fitness regimen. There are the almost daily weigh-ins and laps, yes, to ensure that each player is holding up their end of the bargain, but there are other changes afoot as well. Losada and his assistant, Nicolás Frutos, have taken a holistic approach, one that includes everything from player nutrition to scheduling and beyond, which is to say nothing of the tactical overhaul he’s attempting

Now, an article in the Athletic it shows Ronny has also been fitness oriented in his career
:
Deila, notoriously in Scotland, removed chips from the club canteen and instituted longer distance running and stricter gym sessions. After a few months, his playing squad lost a combined 60 kg (132 lbs).

But there is also this:
There were inconsistencies in performance, if not too frequently results, when Deila’s envisioned football was much more dreary slog than scintillating.

sound familiar?
and:
In his second season, the optimism of preseason crumbled after a disastrous capitulation to Malmo in the Champions League qualification playoff. Deila’s reputation among fans never really recovered.

To be continued.

pretty much my thoughts exactly. sigh. how did we end up with deila again? had to be our 20th pick for coach right?

Philly might be ornery next weekend.

are they ever not vs us? lol. they're a good side. we can't make the same mistakes we made today or we will be punished. it's going to be a battle of the midfield vs philly.. sands and parks need to step up or they will start sitting.
