General MLS Discussion

I'm not sure more than the initial ejection is necessary for Carter, but who knows what they'll do.

Suarez's situation is different. The game was over, and he spit on a staffer. Both make it worse.

Carter situation might be more complicated than thought. New film might show Dak spit first. IMO Dak spit when they were a few yards apart and at worst it was in Carter’s direction but not at or on him but I’m also not motivated to analyze deeply.

All while stepping on the staffer's foot so he couldn't move away from him. And before anyone says Suraez was accidentally stepping on his foot, as I've seen argued on Reddit, let's remember this guy makes his living via world-class control of his feet; he knew exactly what he was doing when he intentionally pinned the Seattle guy's foot. Total scum bag, I hope he never plays another MLS game, but he probably gets a tap on the wrist because he's on the MLS golden club.

Saw an ad on the league site for this…NFTs still?

I signed up just now and got a Bakrar goal. Not sure if it’s a good thing because it was so rare or that is the one they are just giving away.

Looks like the league isn't continuing the league wide "Kick Childhood Cancer" program during the month of September with yellow nets and the special yellow ball. Odd.

Even if they are just trying to spread the love among as many teams as possible, seems an odd choice ahead of Ojeda and/or (my choice) Little Jonny Shore.

Doyle did a write up on all the guys he excluded from his ballot. Every NYCFC eligible player is on it.

Shore and Reid are in the "High-Upside Kids Who Haven’t Shown Enough" section.

Fernandez, Ojeda and Ilenic are in the "Fallen Off" section. Doyle had predicted Ojeda would win 2025 best U-22 a year earlier and is probably his biggest disappointment, but he likes Fernandez even less because he is worthless off the ball. It's worth reading all of his blurbs about the NYC guys, and his clip of Fernandez killing an attack by standing around.

As for the overall vote, you have a stable of writers who are paid to write about a 30 team league but only part time. They're going to take short cuts which means relying on stats. This year Fernandez has uniformly better stats than Ojeda in Goals, G+A, xG, xA, and xG+xA. Ojeda has more Assists, close at 5-4. Minutes played are only 67 apart. Ojeda has somewhat better progression stats, which is no surprise, but If you don't watch NYC enough it's not even a debate. Fernandez is clearly if superficially better. Doyle watches enough to know.

Also the vote and Doyle's article were done just before the RB game where Ojeda looked so good. I doubt it changes the results but worth noting.

I think it's ironic that Jansen was hired in significant part to develop the U22 signings, and it's really hard to say that's been a success, but winning understandably overrides all.

It's hard to say the U22 development for brought in talent has been a success, but we HAVE been playing our academy prospects a lot more this season. Looking at Shore, Ried, Carrizo (Carizzo? Cin-cin-nati all over again), and I think all three definitely could have a place in our starting XI in the future similar to haak/sands/gray, if they're not snatched up soon on a loan or transfer before.

I know it's his job, but it's impressive that Doyle can have a decent take on so many different players. The clip of Fernandez is brutal; in most cases, that would happen due to lack of effort, but with Fernandez, it happens not because he doesn't want to run but because he can't figure out when to make the run.

Miami wins, Orlando loses.

In short, a NYCFC win and CHA loss/tie gets us the 4-seed.

If we tie or lose, Nashville can slip ahead of us with a win vs Miami.

If we win, we are guaranteed no worse than the 5-seed, which locks us in to a first-round series against Charlotte. Slipping to a 6-seed would set us up to face either Cincy or Miami in the first round.
