General MLS Discussion

I didn't realize they replaced UHC as a shirt sponsor.
Leave it to the Revs to pay tribute to, (or more charitably, feel the need to fix) this :

full disclosure, I purchased this thing back in the day.

Got a big offer for him over the summer said no and signed him to a extension. Good to see him staying in the league. He's fun to watch but it's hard not to be jealous with how LAFC handle things compared to nycfc.

We’ve had that same convo about various teams over the years - Atlanta, Miami, LAFC. We are NYCFC fans because of location. Not because of style or administration. Hard to imagine picking this team as a geographical neutral.

Funny thing is Atlanta is doing the same thing it did in its initial heyday but has utterly failed. They mostly sign a mix of very young to early mid-career attacking players with superb credentials over and over.
This year I've seen a number of comments criticizing both LAFC and Miami for doing little or nothing to develop American players, and some limited pushback re LAFC at least making some effort. I do believe LAFC did it more earlier in their history. But according to FBRef, Miami has 2 US players 22 or younger and LAFC has none. They both definitely skew older especially on their prime attacking talent.
And yes, our team identity is largely corporate and boring. It's not the worst thing, and can limit distractions. But for 5-6 years there we also were excellent at least.
