General MLS Discussion

Nu stadium looks ready. At least, the field does. As much as I dislike Miami for their constant whining, I am always happy to see a new soccer specific stadium open up for MLS play. Nu stadium this year, ours next year, and Chicago and potentially New England a few years after that, away days will be so much better!

They haven't installed all of the seats yet.

Everything about Inter Miami right now feels like a pyramid scheme meets a timebuy meets a veneer of fool's gold.

doesn't take long to install seats. it's pretty much done. the areas with metal rails seem to be standing area? weird to have more than one area though but who knows. they are definitely cutting it close.

It doesn't, but you'd think the seats would be installed more than 2 days before Opening Day.

Based upon my experiences the three times we’ve played them at home, they might not need seats as everyone stands with their phones up whenever Messi is within 10 feet of the ball. The team might have realized they could save time by just not installing seats

The article is subscriber only, but this info is before the paywall applies: In the last 14 months, the Sounders made sales that netted almost $8M in cash and GAM. From 2016 through 2024, they only had 3 total sales worth at least $200k, and none more than $750k.

My addition: between 2016 and now, the Sounders rank third in points per game (excluding San Diego's 39 total games) at 1.59 PPG, behind LAFC (1.74) and NYCFC (1.60).

So the Sounders and us are functionally tied. But in the 2016-2022 period, before NYCFC started regular selling without timely replacing, the Sounders had 1.58 and NYCFC was at 1.66. In the period 2023 to now, NYCFC drops to 1.47, and the Sounders are at 1.64.

If Seattle maintains its PPG pace after changing their roster funding model, then NYCFC's performance in the last 3-4 years looks worse. If Seattle falls off, then NYCFC's recent performance is more understandable, if still disappointing.

It took only one small edit to make this perfectly accurate.

I honestly think Miami continues to stay as one of the big 2-3 MLS clubs even after the Messi era is over. Messi is obviously irreplaceable but they will go right into another wave of big name players. They have recruiting star power with Beckham and the legacy of Messi. They have some of the sharpest branding in the league which Messi is currently making internationally recognizable and they are in a location that is highly desirable for European stars.

Not to mention Florida being a very friendly tax haven for high earners in the united states.
