Greetings from Spain NYCFC fans ... Well, as you see in the title I have this doubt and hope for help me: S
I want to know if many of you on your favorite sport is football *
Here in Spain it is as if there were other sport, it is given great importance and I know the importance that is given there.

Sorry if there is any fault in the language, I am still studying :)

Your English is miles better than my Spanish, so no complaints here!

I think football is tied with me for soccer. I have a lot of memories with football since it is so prevalent in the culture that it'd be hard to say I like soccer more than football. But both are at the point where if I scroll across a random game on the TV, I'll stop to watch it.

American football is huge. As big as you think soccer/football is to you in Spain or England, American Football is bigger.
Checkout this wiki page of the world's largest stadiums
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stadiums_by_capacity
Michigan State - 109,000 capacity
Beaver Stadium - 106,000 capacity

Barca is 98,000 ... not even in the top ten.
Wembley, the largest stadium in England is at 90,000.

The part that may be even more surprising, most of these US stadiums are college football (equivalent to minor-league or lower league teams).

Baseball is not the American pass-time. Maybe it was when my dad was a kid in the 40's. Football is the new American pass-time.

Do you get that many though, as in, do your stadiums hit 109,000?
I know nothing of American football, it's like rugby to me which I don't like.

I'm into football & cricket.

I don't have the time right now to fully research this but I can link you a couple wiki articles that may scratch the surface.
NFL figures: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_attendance_figures

Average College ball figures

College ball is the one with the insane figures. According to this link the average is @ capacity.

Yeah, alot of football (American) are massively popular, not only selling out every seat, for every game, but also having waiting lists that some may not live to see their name called. Nationally NFL is extremely popular everywhere, college football has varying degrees of popularity depending on region, for instance Notre Dame which is in Indiana,is the default favorite of a large portion of the northeast (because of a national TV deal), states like Florida, Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma college football is religion. Texas is so into football that high school football is equally popular as college in many cities and towns.

The big teams absolutely average that much. They sell out a few games per year. For instance, Pennylvania State University was 5th in 2013 in attendance with 98,000.

Yeah college football is scary. These colleges are usually not even in big cities/states. Ann Arbor is #229 largest city in the USA with a population of about 115,000. So on game day at The Big House, it is literally like the whole city is there.

But for those that doubt that soccer is moving up the ranks in the US, Real Madrid v Manchester United sold out The Big House in less than a day: http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/04/manchester-united-real-madrid-michigan-big-house-sell-out

This tells me the USA has a population of 303 467 891
http://www.worldatlas.com/aatlas/populations/usadensityh.htm

This tells me that 17 124 389 total attendances at American Football matches (2011)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sports_attendance_figures

Thats a maximum of 5.64% of your population saw a game live.

This tells me that England has a population of 53 012 456
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_of_the_countries_of_the_United_Kingdom

And this tells me that 13382862 Attended EPL games (2013)
Thats a maximum of 25.24% of the population taking in a match.
(and thats without the other divisions)

Your biggest game (spectators) is Baseball which a maximum 24 % of your people watched.

I am not trying to dis respect American football, just to prove that on the face of it, it does not appear to be "bigger" just that you have a bigger population.... I would say your baseball is more on a par.

But you know what. It matters not, if you are a fan then the team, whatever sport, runs through your veins.

The question was pointed specifically at the USA and Football.
Using your style of math we can say that Soccer in England means nothing because 87% of all Filipinos watched a boxing match.

As for Baseball. Not sure where that came from, but USAtoday already did the legwork
http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/01/nfl-most-popular-sport-poll
According to these numbers, it looks like NFL is more popular than MLB...by a long shot.

I don't even watch football though. Can't stand it. Don't even know why I've put this much time into .

I think you underestimate how big football is in England, we might not get
the attendances you do (American football), which may be down to violence previously, & the price
of tickets now, but nearly everyone has a club (even if they just say they do).

I will say the American football attendances are mental though, apart from Wembley stadium
the highest ever attended football game in the country was our very own Manchester City
vs Stoke City in an FA cup game, it still holds the record today for any club ground
in England. 85,000 people packed into Maine Road, back in the day when there were
hardly any seats & everyone stood up on the terracing.
