JERSEY RELEASE???

Personally, not being a MCFC fan, this is a pretty big blow to how I feel about the team. The biggest factor for me in being a fan was that NYCFC would have it's own identity. We have yet to see how the club will be run (whether it's a MCFC minor league club, or an individual effort) so all we can judge is on branding and appearance. That this team is going to dress up like MCFC every home game makes me feel like my goals for the club don't align with the reality of it.

We'll see. For me, it's still mostly about a day out with my friends watching top level football locally and supporting a NYC team. Bit disappointed in the color scheme, but it's still a NYC team, they're still going to play in a subway's distance, which is good enough for me.

I do think they got lazy with the jersey and went with this (it does look nice), but I think operationally they are running independently.

I completely understand and respect those feelings. But for me, I was looking for more than location. I wanted a team that wouldn't be there solely to remind me of a corporate partnership (red bull, Manchester city) that I don't care about.

The backlash is pretty evident by looking at almost everyone's comments so hopefully they'll learn from this and get a little more creative next year. It won't stop me from supporting the team but this is clearly a missed opportunity. For all they've done well they've certainly managed to botch this.

But can you truly believe with 100% certainty that the club did not expect this backlash.... maybe they knew how we would feel and decided to make a MCFC clone kit anyways?

There is always the possibility that, in their priorities, expanding he global brand of Manchester City by having a similarly dressed team playing in the US Market 30+ times a year heavily outweighed satisfying the fans of the individual NYCFC club.

That is my biggest fear.

They must've, but if it leads to fans turning on the team then they should really be careful. The backlash is palpable.

I'm going to have a hard time justifying $100 on what is literally a blue shirt.

There was a pretty big backlash in England when they released their WC home kit. People were absolutely not going to spend £45 on a white shirt with a badge.

Be thankful you guys have Adidas, haha.... Since Nike have taken over our kits they've been crap.

It doesn't matter how they designed this shirt, many fans will always say it is an "MCFC Clone"
unless they gave you guys a red shit with chevrolet on the front.

Be positive though - I can see this developing and probably next season or the season after next you'll have different designs and Away shirts aswell...

I'll be buying all the jerseys for me and my kid. I'm going to do all that I can to support the team. The jersey isn't exactly what I was looking for, but it's damn sharp, and one of the best in the league. I could careless if people think we look like MC's baby club. F them.

Mmm. Well this is largely what I suspected from the start. My position on the issue remains the same: I think NYCFC needs its own identity, and I will be disappointed with every step NYCFC takes that fails this condition, but I always viewed sky blue shirts and the Etihad sponsor as an exception to this rule the club would surely make. People are of course free to make up their own minds on what they think of the club and its kit, and their levels of support for it, but I still think the club is banking on essentially saying "this is our one condition, now we will get on with being our own club". I can't see the team being run as a feeder club - MCFC simply don't need a farm team, and UEFA will ensure it doesn't happen if nothing else - and I can't see it being run as a clone because nothing Claudio Reyna has said so far has made me think that they want that to happen. The club was always insistent that it wanted the fans to dictate the team's culture - the nicknames, the songs, the fan traditions. I think it's now the time for the fans to start creating this culture, and after a while the issue of the kit colour will fade into the background.

Great post.

I think the Kit Colour should not fade into background. Maybe all of us (maybe except those man city fans), should wear the away shirt instead. That way we are heard , as to what fans like.

I am debating whether to purchase this or just wait to wear the away shirt.

Would it be wrong to wear the away shirt to home games?

I think that is a great approach. If people buy and wear the away kit more than they do the home kit, I think it would send a strong message to the club. Not just through our voices, but through our money - which will be more strongly felt.

fair enough but the fact that it is a CFG brand scheme shirt shouldnt be an issue, what did we expect?

I really think we are missing the point, CFG doesnt care that there is backlash, they have a corporate model that isnt going to change. The brand is CFG not MCFC, MCFC fits into the brand and started it but this isnt us trying to be like MCFC its all of the CFG properties being homogenous.

To me, that's just a technicality, and still leaves the jersey not being in the spirit of the NYC identity than many of us want for the club.

Yeah, i for one will def not be purchasing this. Can someone from the supporter group please contact the FO and get their take on this? I mean my god, its not similar to the Mancity shirt, its almost an exact replica! I dont dislike Mancity but come on people! It honestly looks like no effort went into this at all from Adidas or our FO.

And yes, i will definitely be going with the away jersey. What ever happened to this team having its own identity? As far as im concerned the jersey IS one of the biggest things to identify with.

Yea, but maybe we are different. We are New York. New Yorkers.

If a support group came out saying they will wear the away jersey instead I would support them, heck even even if the Third Rail said: We are not happy with this and wear the second jersey. I would be like heck yeah! they understand me, and ill join them.

I will support the team because they are local, and NYC but this jersey color, really left a sour taste. For now I will skip buying the home jersey and wait for the second shirt
