JERSEY RELEASE???

Club explanation quoted from another thread (for those who don't read all threads)

"Hey guys, just got off the phone with Dan Steeves, director of fan services at NYCFC. I mentioned that I had questions for him from the community, which he thought was awesome, and the responses are below.

The Jersey: He mentioned that they have indeed gotten a lot of feedback about the jersey, and that they're fully aware of the resemblance to Man City's jersey. (INSERT SARCASM) He said that the light blue aspect of the jersey has been known to be the identity of the team from the early stages, and that part will be staying."
 
The sky blue was something I thought was a given from the very outset along with the City name.

Given that it's going to be hard to create an identity that some will see as anything other than an MCFC clone. Add navy blue like I've seen suggested and it's even more like the current MCFC kit. Add pinstripes and people will come up with the 07/08 MCFC kit (and a few Coventry kits). Also would Yankee pinstripes make Met fans less likely to jump on board?

White sleeves been done before. Blue sleeves maybe, although a lot of MCFC kits have had blue on the sleeve. Same sponsor doesn't help either.

Maybe add a totally different colour, but would something like orange (which I've seen suggested on here a few times) be seen as too closely aligned to other NY sporting teams, and as a result disliked by supporters of their rivals?

I already gave my response, well before you asked the question. There is a clear, qualitative difference between sharing colors with a parent club and sharing colors with another team in the same league (Even if the teams seem to share a good transfer relationship, which is what I assume you meant about me being ignorant of club ties). That is just my observation of a fact.

Frankly I have no opinion on Everton sharing colors with Chelsea or Leicester. It is a non-issue. Then again, my arguments were never against the sky blue color of the kit. I was disappointed by the derivative/boring design, not the color.

In the end, I guess these are just the opinions of an "ignorant" person in need of education, so feel free to respond with another red herring, strawman, or personal attack.

I understand your right to an opinion. What in your opinion would make the jersey acceptable? I'm asking honestly. And please don't use the tired old "NYC identity" answer unless you can be specific, while at the same time telling me what NYC identity Yankees, Giants, Jets, Nets & Rangers have in their jerseys.

For me it's not necessarily about "NYC identity," it's about NYCFC identity. I want something unique to the club. If they find a non-tacky way to also make that a nod to the city, then great, but otherwise it's just about having a unique kit for the club.

Since I'm sick of writing about this only to be responded to with arguments that ignore my main point, I'll just quote myself from the Away kit discussion thread:

Which ultimately I think was the plan for CFG, to have teams around the world playing in the same kit with different badges. Personally, I hate that idea. Not because its CFG, but because I think it always looks tacky. It doesn't work for Red Bull and it wouldn't work for us. What I hope they learn from this, combined with the Melbourne Heart hoopla, is that local supporters don't want to be just another generic name in the CFG portfolio. We want some concession to our own identity. There is room for CFG to make small, but significant, design choices that reflect the local team and still fit into the broad CFG aesthetic.

Adding details like an orange stripe would also show that they give a shit about the design of the local team, which this jersey does not do for me. You of all people should know how long it would have taken them to plug MCFC colors into an Adidas template. There is nothing about this kit that suggests they really thought about the details of making a kit. They went with broad strokes and yeah, it looks fine, but it lacks that individual element that a few minor details could have given it.

When i wrote about it I almost used the term "hot flames" I love it so much. I couldn't put that in the article because it sound weird but now I don't care.....this jersey is HOT FLAMES!
