Mikkel "Mix" Diskerud [Midfielder]

We should keep Mix, but he needs to be played to his strengths. His performance hasn't been spectacular at times, but then he'll make a play that just makes you think under the right conditions, he could be exactly what we need. His performance with the USMNT has been better sometimes, but it just goes to show you how capable he really is. Once the real weak spots in our lineup are addressed and corrected, I think he'll shine. If he picks up his pace, maintains control of the ball, and moves it a little faster, I get goosebumps thinking what he could do for us.

Danny Williams will be wearing #10 tomorrow for the USMNT

What the fuck? So my special edition July 4th Diskerud Number 10 jersey is worthless now? Sunil Gulati owes me $150.
Yup it looks that way. I am going by fox sports and one of those clowns had him in their starting line up on the graphic and it definitely had #10 next to him.

He should be playing in midfield alongside Pirlo. For some unknown reason JK prefers Jacobsen who can't defend and is a far inferior player to Mix.

Yup, he looked much more comfortable alongside Jacobsen than he did on the wing in a position that exposes only his flaws and takes advantage of none of his strengths. Imagine what he could do with a non-idiot next to him.

The crazy part is, Jacobson is better at the grabavoy, Ballouchy role than they are. It makes too much sense to switch the two and drop the reál boy

I thought Mix played great in the central midfield. He definitely seemed like he was the only that gave a fuck for the full 90 minutes. He made some top quality passess. WhoScores said that he not only completed the most passes but had the best completion % on the team. I thought he was just as active on defense as Jacobson. If we can pair him with a CDM destroyer after Pirlo leaves I think we are in very good shape.

Interesting. I haven't seen much of Jacobsen out wide. Then again, to say he is better than Grabs / Ballouchy out there might not be saying that much ;)
Yeah, I'm not saying much, other than he dribbles into space and can cross the ball confidently, which is more than grabavoy can do

edit: not sturggles, dribbles

I spoke with Mix this afternoon at the UWS Upper 90 during his new Mix Lid event and I specifically asked him which position/role he prefers to play in midfield. His answer was that he prefers to be a 6 but also likes to play as an 8. I asked about playing on the wing this season and he said he hates it, it's not best for his skill set and that he's been willing to play that position for the coach for now. He went on to add that he'll fight to play as a 6 or 8 exclusively next season.

I'm one to give Kreis another chance, but things like this cannot be defended ....

Sweet. So Jacobson and Mix will be fighting for defensive central mid? I guess that crosses out our need for someone solid in that position and leaves more room for more desirable defense or wingers?

I agree that Mix is better in those spots, but don't we have DPs playing those two positions? (I always get confused about what is a 6 or an 8).

I admire how candid he was when answering your question. I'm surprised he said he'd rather play 6 over 8 but it actually makes a lot of sense. When he came to MLS he said one of the reasons was because it was a more physical game and he wanted the challenge to increase his toughness. I think he sees the 6 position as his best shot to get meaningful min with the USMNT. Jones and Beckerman are on their way out and the 8 and 10 have a lot of competition. I really like Mix, let's hope Kries is either gone or plays Mix in Jacobsons spot next year so we don't loose him.
