Mix Gone?

I like Mix for Trapp but no way we get Trapp with just offering Mix. He has probably the highest ceiling of any American CM in the league and is already solid. We'd have to give Mix and a bit of GAM I think.

I'll say it again. We should have gone after Brek Shea instead. We had the ability to sign Brek Shea and decided to pass.

Brek Shea led MLS in goals 4 years ago. Much like Mix last year, he's playing out of position in Orlando.

four years ago? come on man thats not relevant now....plus dude got burned by mendoza .....i still pass.....and mix can get traded too to get something for him.

EDIT: plus i remember reading it was "discovery" that shea can play RB or LB i forget where he plays now.

I don't understand what you just said. I think you are saying that scoring the most goals in MLS means nothing. I would argue that once a goal scorer, always a goal scorer. You don't see a lot of goals scored from LB. You do see a lot of goals scored from LW.

Could you imagine Shea and Matarrita, with their speed, linking up play? And I was pro-Mix, anti-Brek at the time. I was wrong.

TMac disappears? Why? Because he's not on the ball as much since Harrison and Lampard have become effective attacking options? Totally disagree with that statement. Tommy is constantly moving and making smart runs off the ball. PV said it best when he said he's always running to the right spot. You need guys like that who are willing to makes runs all game even though they might not get the ball. TMac drags defenders with him with all of his off the ball movement, and it opens up passing lanes for Pirlo as well as space for our two best attackers, Villa and Harrison. Tommy also doesn't get enough credit for his defensive positioning. He doesn't make a lot of tackles or interceptions but he's constantly tracking back and closing guys down and turning them laterally or backwards. That's the reason he's playing consistently, because he's doing exactly what PV wants him to do.

It is for those exact same reasons that I also disagree with Kjbert's post that Mix is invisible when he plays. Mix also does a ton of the same type of hard work off the ball. Things that may not actually show up in a stat sheet but are necessary to win games. I really hope they don't sell Mix because we are only a Lamps or Pirlo injury away from realizing how much we would miss him and need him in the center of the park.
Agree about TMac in the final third. I think TMac is great there. His quality and contributions drop off a lot everywhere else, though. Since we don't use a CAM, the only place he can play in our squad is wing.

And to bring this back around to the instant topic, that is why I don't even see a point in comparing Mix and TMac. It's apples and eggplants.

lampard is chelsea's top scorer...and look how he is perceived now. past glories mean nothing now.

i like matarrita i dont want shea there. plus orlando's defense is not the greatest and he is a part of that

i enjoyed jacobson getting in his diving face in the first game.

I'm advocating for Shea as a LW in our 4-3-3. That's where he scored his goals and that's why Stoke bought him.

He's played out of position in Orlando.

Shea and Lampard have nothing in common.

You are disparaging Shea's career because you don't like him personally. That's silly

Brek Shea had one great season, that was it. Like Gotham Gator mentioned he struggled with consistency, so it is very possible that Shea would be hit and miss, frustrating as much as thrilling us, thus leading to a thread entitled "Shea gone?"

He is 26 years old, the odds of him turning into a consistent force are slim at this stage. All historical data suggests a player at this age is who he is and any drastic uptick in production is not the norm. While he could be an outlier that is not odds I would be willing to bet on.

Also of note: in his 5 seasons in Dallas he scored 19 goals, with 11 in that one season. One could argue that one season was the outlier.
