Mix Gone?

Genuine/non-accusatory question - are there any stats to back this up? Or are we just talking about the eye test here?
Eye test and process of elimination.

One can immediately rule out: Villa, Pirlo, Dmid (Iraola/Bravo), and both CB's
The outside Backs while also making runs on offense do not do it constantly, therefore they can be removed.
The wings are the flip side of the Outside backs, and while they may run more, still do not run as much as a box-to-box midfielder. Michael Bradly is constantly heralded for the amount he runs in matches, and Mix was playing the same position while breaking up plays on defense and getting into the offense box.

I thought that the idea that Pirlo doesn't run was widely debunked.

A few links that deconstruct his play and stats, admittedly on a small sample size:

I mostly read the forums on my phone, so any more research would be excruciating. The point made in the first link about "low activity distance covered" is an interesting one because it illustrates the superiority of his positioning – surely being in the right place at the right time is more important than how hard it looks like one is working. This was one of the more frustrating aspects of Mix's play – he always looked like he was busting a gut because his mind moved too slowly to anticipate situations that his legs bailed him out of.

I think PV is holding out for a change in hairstyle. It worked for Shelton. Coercing Mix into shedding his characteristic locks would probably be his crowning achievement to date.

Oh definitely Pirlo runs, and I think he actually is now doing a lot of high press whereas at the beginning he wasn't. But to your point regarding his positioning, when moving forward he's always the trailing midfielder and rarely gets within 6yrds of the opponent's box. Mix on the other hand was crashing the net and was expected to go into the corners/etc a lot. it's not that Pirlo isn't running, just that he was obviously running a less and an easy player to rule out immediately when comparing.

Definitely wouldn't be an injury if he's doing this ^ seems like he's trying to keep himself busy knowing he's not going to see the field.

I think there's a lot of factors that attribute to him being sidelined. First and foremost is PV's stubbornness to play the same lineup when "its working" (more like was working for a few games in a row a few weeks ago). That being said, that doesn't explain why he can't even break the 18. A fitness issue would surely be solved by now. He looked so good in pre-season, but then the first few games all he did was run at people like Mikey, just was worse at it.

I don't criticize PV for not playing him - he came in here with the intention of getting us into the playoffs, however he had to, and it looks like that's all but locked up. I do criticize the FO for not being able to move him on and get us something more useful in the last window. I realize he's a hard sell with that salary, but come on. There had to be some interest.

So apparently Mix was told he was benched due to lack of fitness. He contends (if my Norwegian translator is any good) that he's in the best shape of his life and said he's going to continue working hard anyways.

He also mentions later on that he does intend to go back to Norway at some point.

Is fitness really the only issue? If so that seems like something that would have been addressed by now, no?

Here's the first hand interview I mentioned previously. The first was a report of the interview...

He's definitely not injured now as he was a full-participant in practice yesterday and didn't look hampered at all.

I'm officially over this guy. How can i take his video seriously when he's been dropped from the national team and cant even crack the 18 at the club level. I think its a stupid time to be putting out self promoting videos when he's being beaten out by the likes of ballouchy and lopez for a bench spot. Maybe he thinks he can be the next messi, but he's not going to be for us, so push for a transfer already, be vocal about it; because when all he doing is sitting in the stands and selling hats on the side I feel like he's more interested in his brand then the team. I'm an NYCFC fan not a Mix Diskerud fan, I just want whats best for the club, and what's best is a player who can contribute to the system not handcuff our budget.

I wouldn't write off Mata that quickly. He goes up an back on nearly every possession. I cannot recall a time when we had the ball across midfield and he stayed back. He often goes all the way to the end line on offense for a cross and back far enough on defense to clear balls off the goal line or deep in the corner to guard the oppositions wing player.

I don't know how the locker room placard system works, but "his placard in the Yankee Stadium locker room has been removed" suggests that for whatever the reason is/was, it's likely not a fixable one.
Which in our short history would be the worst player acquisition hands down. We're still on the books for him for another year and to say no matter what he does he'll never see the field is petty.

Well, he would pretty clearly be our one off-season buy out we can accomplish off the books. Too bad. I like the guy and will always wish him well.

Another article reiterating what was said above. http://www.empireofsoccer.com/mix-d...10/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
He basically says it's not fitness it's something else. I've always thought it was something different. How can you say his issue is fitness when you never play him. From what I've heard he practices very hard and in games I've seen Mix he runs his ass off.
After reading that article, he and Bastian have similar philosophies: train hard, do what you're asked, and cash the paycheck while taking the high road. Can't expect anything else from either of them.

It's the third team locker room at Yankee Stadium. Everything in that locker room can be removed and I bet it's empty during the times we don't have matches. They probably set it up a day or two before.

Article says we are on the books for another two years (last sentence). Ugh. They have to buy him out or find a trading partner - not only is he crazy expensive he's using up allocation money to get him under DP level. In the cap scenario Mix is our most expensive player.

Let that one sink in...NYCFC's most expensive player can't even make the game day 18. Worst contract in MLS.

Your last paragraph is a misnomer. It's not that Mix can't make the 18, it's that he isn't being considered for it. At this point, based on PV's actions, Mix could have the cheat codes to win the MLS cup and he still wouldn't be allowed near the field - there is an unrepairable schism, whatever it may be, between the two.

I don't blame mix for not wanting to go. Hey you have something against me not based on my play but you're still paying me so much money that I can afford an awesome place in the middle of the worlds best city and do it for the next two years as well.
In the meantime he IS going 100% in training to maintain fitness.

I wonder what the other guys on the team think about his situation??? They're probably smart enough to not voice anything within earshot of the hierarchy, but between each other over beers, I'm sure it's been discussed.

The guys not stupid. He has endorsements, drives a new Porsche (not free but probably a really good deal since he sponsored the dealership), sells his own merch and so on.
I know him and Khiry used to be very close and roommates but that changed this year. So I'm not sure what happened between the two of them but there haven't been bromance pictures all year. Actually only person I see him with is Eirik.
