MLS is Back Tournament - 2020

If you need to see how many people get infected to make a "sound, rational" decision about whether to you can hold an event, the sound, rational decision is to not hold the event.

The way the MLS and Disney are handling this is what my soccer coach would call, “Mickey Mouse”.
I guess what do you expect with the way this country is handling the pandemic.

Appears that Disney isn’t holding up to their end of the agreement.

More problems happening while teams are still on their home turf, now in Canada.
Toronto delayed its departure twice on consecutive days, first because of delays in getting test results, and then because a someone in the travel party developed symptoms while still in Canada.
Vancouver delayed because 2 test results were inconclusive and had to be redone.

It would not surprise me if they push the tournament back by a few days considering all the teams struggling to even get there.

Clearly they're not canceling it, so the best we can hope for is that they delay it by a few days so everyone can get there with the 7 days lead time they want.

Still several teams outside the bubble, Nashville appears to have an outbreak now.......i'm expecting at least all round 1 games to be pushed back at this point.

As long as they still open with Inter & Orlando City. It’s the match everyone’s been dying to see.

Every time I start to think about getting on my high horse about how embarrassing it is that Beckham FC appropriated the name "Inter" I remind myself that in South America there are clubs literally named "Liverpool" and "Everton".
There is a history going back 100 years regarding the South American Teams. The connection to the English Clubs probably make a lot more sense.

From what I have read yes it’s basically because the teams were set up by English business men or whatever that moved to those countries and named them after the city they from or the team they supported back home.

this does not really apply here with Miami although i still think they can name it as they want to as they do own it.

In Europe there are also Inter Turku, Inter Bratislava and lord knows who else. I don’t know how this differs from all the Uniteds and Cities, of which also the NYCFC is one.

true although with nycfc....at least from my experiences people mention the city as in "new york city" many times not just "new york", also growing up with people from other boroughs mention manhattan as "the city" ( i know they play in the bronx but still in the lingo) so i feel nycfc gets away with it.

I wrote it that way on purpose bc of the lawsuit. didn't mean to trigger you. just my own little laugh and the ridiculousness of it all.

NBA teams start arriving tomorrow and entering the bubble. It’ll be interesting to see if their fan base/players start denouncing the tournament as well or if we’re just over reacting.

I still don't see any reason to not play the tournament. It seems most of the issues have involved people arriving positive. Time will tell, I guess.

Will be interesting to see if the NBA players end up arriving with some positive tests too.

That’s my thinking as well. Not saying that staff aren’t infected but I would imagine they’re being tested regularly as well otherwise that’s a serious oversight.

Agree with this. If there is community spread between multiple teams, then it's time to pull the rip cord. Until then, it's people who are testing positive after getting infected before arriving. It does seem to indicate the bubble might be working.

Also, I think every sport is expecting coronavirus infections to come from restarting. Having infections isn't enough to cancel. Having infections run rampant through multiple teams causing the event to be a sham is probably what it would take.
