MLS is Back Tournament - 2020

Anyone else irrationally angry at the sight of Gregg Berhalter at the SJ/SEA game?

Thank god Jon Champion relieves that pain by saying “his brother Jay was instrumental in getting this tournament done”

edit: Tyler Adams as striker, Pulisic as right back and Bradley the 48 year old captain. Can’t wait!
Yeah. Also thought it was odd he was wearing full USMNT garb and uniform.

I've been pretty okay with the fake crowd noise in the various euro leagues, but... it "works", as much as it does, partly because the games are being played in a stadium.

The only fake crowd noise that would make any sense at these WWOS pitches is some scattered angry yelling from soccer moms.

I miss mummy Harrison.

Why does he need to be there?

I understand he will need to scout players, but there is plenty of footage available from these games that he should have access to, including tactical cams. I’m guessing he’s not supposed to be meeting with players while he’s down there to limit interactions between teams.

Gregg is just a bubble kind of person.

Anyone else find the giant advertising boards and center field Adidas Logo a little depressing/dystopian/ominous?

The billboards aren't as bad as some stadiums with multiple light bars of advertising on the main camera shot. The Adidas logo is excessive.
FOX sucks at the crowd noises, NBC does it much better.

Toronto arrived later than other teams, so if I'm reading that statement correctly, I think they are saying that it's possible someone had it prior to entering the bubble and is just now potentially testing positive after the incubation period?

Regardless of whether the bubble is working or not, I really don't see how the in-market games will not be affected

I think you are reading that correctly. Toronto entered very late and this is at least possibly a pre-bubble infection.

I also agree with your assessment of in-market games. I predicted the bubble would work, though I'm less confident about that now, mostly because too many people showed up with infections (but let's see how it plays out). But regardless of how well the bubble works or not, MLS completely mishandled the pre-bubble protocols and unless they tighten things up post-bubble, then even if they get through the tournament I have extremely limited confidence about what happens afterwards. If you're going to play you need very strict protocols, not just for testing but for contact and behavior, and not just in the bubble but before and after. But the players balked at the restrictions and the league tried a looser system and it has not done well. Which is not to blame the players for not wanting the restrictions. I get that. But I do think it is an either/or choice: tight restrictions, or don't play. Together the league and the union opted for in-between and it has not worked.

In terms of buy-in from the players, it didn't help that the League came out of the gate with a bunch of threats about the players' contracts if they didn't agree to play the Let's Make Disney Happy tournament.

and I already said "Which is not to blame the players for not wanting the restrictions. I get that." Which was the next fucking sentence you excluded from your quote of me. What is the point of adding disclaimers and context if people ignore them in bad faith?

I'm... not attacking you, man. I was just adding to the conversation.

FWIW, he was also down there to see his son make his professional debut.

lol dafuq is the GK doing
This is a hockey goaltending move. When a player comes in on a breakaway you purposely stay out of position to show them an opening and take it away at the last second. The big difference here is the size of the goal and the speed of the player. Not the brightest move.
