NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

I need a better understanding of what that means if anyone can do that please.
$4.3 million is even higher than the salary budget cap of $4.035 million.

Of course most teams pay more overall for their rosters than the budget cap, but it gives you a sense of scale for that investment.

Also, unlike the salary budget, there is likely wide variance between teams in spending on academies. It’s a good way for an ambitious team to get an edge.

But what are they saying each team spends $4.3 million on
I took it to mean all operating costs associated with all teams and players other than the first team. Running academies, running a USL team. Coaches, trainers, equipment, field maintenance, academy-related building maintenance, travel, etc. If Garber was not trying to overstate things, it would not include capital costs like buying a USL franchise, building a USL stadium or academy site, etc.

I was going to ask if they included things like the $10 Million practice facility we built.
If Garber included capital investment then the $100mm is both misleading and insignificant. I don't trust Garber unreservedly but I also don't think he usually uses doublespeak to mislead.

Ours was only $10M? No wonder it looks so cheap. ATL’s was $60M in an area where the dollar goes farther..... so a bigger divide comparatively.

Just read they also have six academy locker rooms.... so basically an all-in-one facility for the club from academy to 1st team.

I think ours ended up being closer to $15 million but having seen both ours and Atlanta’s...ours is fucking Mickey Mouse.
Ours compared to any of the others looks Mickey Mouse. LAFC has a palace. KC is top rate. Even RSL has a 40-50m complex with an indoor field. And again, that $40-50m in Utah has way more buying power so its equivalent to $55-70m+

I'm guessing you haven't seen New Jersey's

I didn't even know one of the academy kids was playing in college and won the title. Is there a way to know which kids went from our academy to college? Do we still have dibs on them?

Pretty sure he was called into an NYCFC preseason camp in 2017...

And we do have his MLS rights under the current rules as he played in our academy (see Jordan Morris on Seattle having played at Stanford).

thanks....it be easier if there was also a list of homegrowns and knowing where they playing in college to sort of keep tabs on them in college season.
