NYCFC Confirm Departure of PV. Nice Confirm Arrival of PV as Manager.

Wish we could have given him a sendoff at the ATL game.

Sad to see him go, but I think most of us had a handful of reasons to want a change. The biggest reasons for me: the headscratcher subs; his unwillingness to give JLew a bigger role in the team; and (mostly) the way we bottled every big game. Can't do that in a playoff league.

Either way, he certainly helped our team grow in the right direction. Landing a spot in Europe is huge for him, and I wish him the best of luck.

We could have if he and the club had been even a little up front with fans about what was going on. Instead we got a Historic First Backdoor Exit.

Get ready for the Historic first mid-season caretaker coach.

I get the timing difference and why PV saw the opportunity and went for it. However, it still feels really awkward for a team at the top of the table to have their manager just get up and leave mid-season. I get a floundering club where the manager gets sacked.

Can someone find a similar example where a team is top 3-4 in the table and their manager just leaves mid-season?

This is a take from Colton Coreschi that I thought was spot on.

This is great for Patrick in his career and frankly great for MLS as well. This is the new reality for both players and managers as the quality of the league continues to rise. It's no longer a place to end your career, it's a place to grow and move on to bigger leagues. It's taken more seriously by other international leagues and teams. This is nothing but a positive.

I also don't understand the people accusing him of lying. It's standard practice, at least from classier players and managers, to not discuss potential moves until the deal is inked. You act like you're going to stay until you leave, because if you end up not leaving, it creates a toxic environment.

Vieira has done marvelous things for our team. He transformed us from the Kreis shitshow of 2015 to a fun, beautiful-playing yearly playoff team with high aspirations. His style is imprinted in this roster and fanbase and will continue to be present for years to come. Even now, the most common comment I see is how people hope we continue to play our style, his style.

The fans that wanted him gone because of playoff and Open Cup struggles, you've gotten your wish. I hope I'm wrong, but I fully expect this to be a rude awakening for those fans about the rarity of managers of his quality, particularly within MLS. They don't grow on trees, Vieira, Marsch, Martino and the like are exceptions, not the standard. I can only hope Vieira's replacement does as well as he has, and I trust CFG to put someone in charge that they truly believe can succeed. But if not, I wouldn't be surprised to see many of those with reactionary calls for his job to be lamenting his departure and longing for a return to the time under Vieira.

Not completely analogous, but there's college football, with too many classic examples of exits during successful seasons, hours before bowl games, etc.

How? 100% true. You don't like it you don't like reality.
How is it ridiculous when it is what happened?
Open your eyes guys. He was putting the Club in a really nasty light based on ridiculous predicates. Yes ManCity announced first, but that was clearly a mistake and was taken down. Nice was ahead of NYCFC by 2 minutes, which is effectively simultaneous. The implication that our Club was somehow out to lunch or caught by surprise or whatever he was trying to say is ludicrous and irresponsible.
