NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

The one obvious difference between now and this time last year, is that we think there is some depth and some talent.

We are all very excited about the potential of Harrison, Taylor, Mullins and Shelton. All will contribute something this year. I don't think we were as excited about our attacking options last year. There is a much deeper bench and larger rotation already.

No well respecting NYCFC fan will admit it but about this time last year I'm pretty sure we were all super excited about our new big hold up style european striker acquisition Adam Nemec! I'm certain no discussions were had about how perfectly he would pair with Villa and all the goals from headers he would score.

I wonder if Nemec's Youtube highlight videos were played at 2x actual speed in order to mask the fact that he is the slowest professional athlete I've ever seen?

That's less than Brandt played for us last year. No one's counting on Brandt for anything and he's not coming off a huge injury.

Actually Brandt is coming off of an injury that could be described as "huge" under the circumstances: He has had to undergo 2 significant surgeries on his groin (sports hernia) over the past 6 months. The first surgery apparently didn't go well and during his rehab it was discovered that the surgery had to be redone. He's been rehabbing this winter but I don't know how close he is to being back to full training.

Based on the current roster and usage of spots on MLS we have 23/28 players with 2 more international spots that we'll definitely use before transfers end. That leaves 3 Americans to sign...who? What (cheap) Americans do we want?

Good question. I had asked this earlier and still pondering the answer. It's important how we fill out the roster with domestic players. My hope is we find 1 or 2 young American players, perhaps from the USL or NASL to join the team.

I would think that one of the American players will be our 3rd string GK. Probably going to be Rawls

thats what i was thinking as well. what was his goals against average at wilmington? anyone know?

This is why we need nycfc 2. Instead of him not getting any game time as a 3rd string he can play.

I think after we sign a centerback, the rest of the roster will be filled out with depth players.

my wish list

1) bjorn maars johnsen- free transfer
2) Cole Grossman - not sure what it would cost to get him- or conor O'Brien
3) Aj cochran - free agent
4) dan metzger (loan)
5) andre rawls - free transfer
6) trade chris wingert for an international spot if anyone would bite on that; maybe RSL?- trade future 2nd round draft pick for ignacio maganto. - if not maybe free agent carlos alvarez won't be a bad depth signing. can play on the wing or in the center. had a good 1st year in mls and has since not played as well.

Bjorn Maars Johnsen would not be a free. His move is imminent, and he is being highly sought after by teams in Portugal, Germany, Norway, France, and MLS. We would be lucky to have him, but doubt we can afford the transfer fee which is definitely >500,000 Euros.

didn't know that he commanded such a transfer fee. knew he was sought after by many teams tho. Deff on my wish list tho. Could use a player like him

It might actually be closer to 500,000, but either way, he is highly sought after. He is the exact type of forward this team needs.

See my proposed changes to your plan.
Here are the moves I think we need, in order of priority.

1. CB - a strong guy who can start.
2. CB - another guy who is younger and has potential to develop.
3. 1st & third Goalkeeper. (Saunders can be a backup)
4. Defensive Mid.
5. RB
6. Best Player Available.

Spend extra money on #1 and then on either #2 or #4.

Presnel Kimpembe, the young CB we tried to loan from PSG just got subbed into the PSG game right now.

With the international signings we've made are they better than the MCFC EDS players we potentially could have received?

If the talent level is even close, much prefer the non-EDS options with a greater likelihood of longevity and team-building. I think that the team is taking that route which I am happy about. I know that this still doesn't answer your question.
