NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

After this weekend's awful defensive showing, anyone else rethinking Terry?

The Pro is that he would be the best CB in the league from day one.
The Con (on the field) is that part of our issue was speed against those guys on Sunday.

I'd take him in a heartbeat - but if I were him, I'd do the complete opposite of Lampard and retire from my career team with my dignity intact (that is, of course, if dignity is something John Terry still has).

Terry would have been exposed by Acaam's speed and Hernandez' lack of ability/partnership.

Thank you for restating what I said.

Question is - how many teams have that type of speed? Maybe 2 others?
My point being that nobody should be thinking the sky is falling after that game - it's impossible to make an evaluation of our Defense if 2 of the four players were real starters and the others were fill-ins at their positions.

There are enough teams with speed that it's more about the partnership and teamwork of the back line. NE, RB, Tot, Seattle, Van, Orlando all have speed.

And remember, Mena has some good speed to him. Not Accam fast, but he's got some quicks. Plug him in for Hernandez when he's healthy and its a big improvement.

I know many people here weren't impressed with Mena at all last year, but I think he has the tools to be a steady MLS starter at CB.

I thought he was our best player in the DC United and Orlando matches at the end of the year. Two very forgettable matches, but I came out of them very positive on him. If I recall, it was after he'd been out for a while and perhaps generally had a chance to settle in after initially being rushed into the lineup in mid-summer and looking a bit inconsistent.

Given the number of players they are bringing in, I'd take it as a sign of Vieira's confidence in Mena that they only added Brillant at CB. That is a bit of supposition on my part though.

And he was solid at Columbus locking down Kamara. I believe I remember him making a few mistakes in that game, but there were a lot of 1v1s between him and Kamara that he won.

FWIW, whoscored.com has Mena as our third best rated player last year, behind Meara (1 game) and Villa.

Please no more old players from the EPL .

Lets spend our DP money on young players that have a lot in the tank.

Terry was a real good player, he is now old, injured and slow.

There's got to be someone in Liga MX, Ligue 1, La Liga, Turkey who's playing well, making 5mil/yr and is in his mid to late 20s. I'd even take a young EPL player on a 6mil/yr contract so long as he can give us 15 goals and 10 assists a year.
