NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

With regards to keeping Bravo, Doesn't MLS have some weird rule that you can pay a transfer fee for 1 player per season that doesn't count against the cap?

OK - if that rule really exists (and I'm not sure I've seen it), then CFG should engineer the following every single year:

NYCFC finds a MCFC/Melbourne player they want that is about to become an out-of-contract/free transfer candidate - pays a $15-18M transfer fee (or a fee equal to 3x whatever the player typically earns each year) to MCFC/Melbourne for the player, of which it's structured so that 99% of the transfer fee goes to the player and 1% to the club, and the player then signs a minimum salary ($60K/$180K) for three years.

Hey CFG - can I have a job in your MLS Cap department?

If the rule exists, and like you I've never heard of it, I think it's a near certainty your suggestion -- clever as it is -- cannot be allowed. If it is an existing loophole they would change it on the fly. Plus my understanding was that MLS unofficially but actively discourages transfer large fees, even if they are for DPS and fall completely within the rules without any gamesmanship.

Kekuta Manneh, the 21-year-old winger at Vancouver was mysteriously not in the 18 over the weekend. He has 5 goals on the season and a ton of speed. Not necessarily saying we should get him, but noting the development.

Personally, I can't see Vancouver giving up a young talent that doesn't take up an international spot and has a low salary in exchange for an older talent on a very high salary (Mix), but who knows.

I'd be shocked if Vancouver let him go, they need more goalscorers not less. But maybe Mullins, Mix, and allocation money gets them to listen?

Welp... there goes any hope of Valdes joining NYC.

I'll still hold out hope for Guzan or even Casillas as non-DP signings with help from the league.

Let's say Casillas comes in making $ 1 Million - based off of when he joins, he makes $400k this year. That is entirely eaten up by the Poku GAM. No cap hit.

Lampard leaves this winter or re-ups on a non-DP contract (how have we not talked about this yet?). Casillas is no longer on a pro-rated deal, Lampard's DP contract as run out and Casillas is your Third DP.

Lampard on a non-DP contract?

Now that's an idea I've literally never heard before. I wonder if he'd be open to it.

Replacing Lampard with Casillas as a DP would be two steps backwards.

Forget debating spending a DP spot on a keeper (bad idea), is Casillas even a positive addition at this point?

If he was, sounds like we would have brought him in already, given our recurring interest. Sounds like we are waiting for his price to slowly come down. But at the point it does, I think that indicates we shouldn't want him anymore anyway.

Hart will be out of job with Pep being the manager, can we have him? worth the DP slot?

I think he retires after this season to be honest. I think he's ready to go home once and for all. But with the way he is currently playing, IF he can stay healthy, he certainly has another year in him. I don't know if he would take a pay cut, but we're not paying him $6 Million again.

1) Why is it a bad idea? Show me the evidence proving that
2) You may be the only man in the world who would prefer Saunders over Casillas
3) We couldn't afford him previously. Now we may be able to.

Lol is number 1 a response to me asking for a link in the other thread? The difference is my post is my own opinion, while you were citing someone else about a rumor about a fact (Portland is interested in Mix).

Also, I posed it as a question whether he's any good anymore. I'll give more details on my opinion if a real rumor comes about Casillas.

Anyone know how transfermarkt works in terms of free agents? It says Schulz is already moving to "unknown" on a free transfer. Is that just a placeholder they put there since he's out of a contract, or does that mean there's a deal already in the works but it just isn't announced yet?
