NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I don't think they allow that from an FFP perspective

Isn't FFP only subject to UEFA teams though? I'm not saying we pay $50 mill for him if he's worth $10, but if he's worth $10 mill why wouldn't man city wanna sell him to us knowing we'd give $15 mill.

There is absolutely no way that Man City makes us pay a transfer fee for this guy if they want him here. Either loan him for the rest of his contract or give him to us on a free. From the business aspect of things, they would have to weigh the cost vs benefits of selling him to say Sevilla vs. the cost of the transfer fee for a new DP replacing Pirlo or Lampard this winter or next summer.

Nasri would be a massive signing. Keep in mind that almost every superstar who comes to MLS is going to have a flaw. The customary one is age. Giovinco had the perfect storm of "flaws" (really in his case, "circumstances") other than age. For some it may be "personality" like Nasri, and you accept it with open arms and pray that it is substantially outweighed by the way above MLS talent. This would be huge.

Villa would straighten him out.

Correct. They may need the profit/sell-on dollars to facilitate other business.

Put it this way, if Sevilla offers $15 Million for him, he's going to Sevilla.

To play devil's advocate, so long as the transfer fee is FMV, can't CFG have NYCFC just "pay" the transfer fee to MCFC?

I believe they stopped that loophole on the side of MLS however because of Erick Thohir and DC United? I'm sure it's in here 100 pages ago.

If his wife wasn't thrilled about Manhattan, I can't wait to hear the gossip when he tells her they're moving down under.

"Christine, we're uhh (scratches back of head) moving to Australia for a year to two."

"For fucks sake Frank, first we move to New York, which I admit is better than what I thought and is a beautiful and lovely city, but Sydney? Really Frank?"

"Melbourne."

Last line is the best!

We (I say "we" like it's our job to scout players ) should also consider looking at attainable domestic talent. Most of the young guys overseas will want to (and should) stay where they are (Wood/Pulisic/etc) but there's other guys out there in situations that might make MLS attractive. For instance, Paul Arriola (21) - played in a few USMNT games already, called up for the upcoming friendlies, and likely a big part of the future USMNT. He plays in Mexico right now, so it's not like we'd be pulling him out of Europe. Looks like he's a dual national so he likely has ties down there, but he'd probably be a sick acquisition if we have some TAM after we un-fuck ourselves of Mix's contract. I wonder if anyone has discovery rights on him?

I'm sure Chicago has Discovery rights to him. That's the trend....

He grew up in SD and has said he wants to come to MLS at some point. I spoke with his teammate Alejandro Guido about a month ago and he said MLS is definitely somewhere he and a lot of the guys on Xolos want to play at, especially the American ones. Naturally I brought up NYCFC and he said it's really attractive to play alongside guys like Villa, Pirlo and Lampard and especially because it has the direct connection to a European club with CFG.

I wouldn't be surprised to see NYCFC reach into Mexico this off season, especially given the reception they've gotten so far. It doesn't hurt that some of our current players' agents also represent some other young Americans in Mexico.

Reyna is probably wheeling and dealing in Mexico right now...

How would people feel about the Beez coming in to provide cover and help guide our young wingers and fullbacks? If we could get him at a reasonable price, I'd love to have him there. He's been such a good wide player for so long, and we don't really have a guy there for Matarrita, Jack, etc.

If he wants to get into coaching (no idea if he does or doesn't), perhaps we can negotiate something for him to roll into a position. Great locker room guy and all around winner. If we could make it financially tenable for both parties, he'd be a great guy to have involved with our organization. It's all wild conjecture on my part, as someone will probably pay him a very nice wage and he's a mid-west guy, but whatever.

I actually think that's a great idea. He's been decent this year. He makes a little less than Mix from what I remember - 600k or something I thought.
