NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Chicago is building something. Schweini to anchor the midfield with Guzan in goal is a good start. They drafted well last year and have some offensive targets. Looks like they are getting a striker from Legia Warsaw that Hull wanted.

If Fabian is really moving stateside, I would want him. More than Torres, Khedira, etc.

Similar to what Colorado did with Howard and Jones.

Not a bad David-tactic. Change the terms of engagement, be willfully retro-grade. while everyone else dumps money into the attack, chew up their attack and spit it back at them.

ETA: On that note, I really wish we would high press. There's not a good argument against it in this league. And given that we aren't stopping anyone anyway when they get into our half, why even put up the facade. He's a prick, but Marsch has it right. High press well, and you'll be in SS contention every year in this league.

It's the answer to teams spending cheap on defense

If we had a minimally competent GK this past year that didn't puke points away with mindfck gaffes, we'd have won the SS.

A team doesn't need a High Press to win.

Has there been any more news about the Sami Khedira interest? I know the Red Bull's said no, LAG hasn't commented. Last I heard is we made an offer. True or not.

I can't see a 29 year old player, on one of the best teams in the world, that starts...with his talent come to MLS...but I'm still very hopeful, as he's EXACTLY what we need. He'd boss the f out of our midfield.

I think you can't assume you get every break. I also didn't say it was the only way to win. I said it was the best way to win, particularly when you have shit defenders. Because when you high press, you will give up some absolute howler goals no matter how good or bad the defenders are. Right now, we don't high press and still give them up. Might as well have an excuse and give ourselves a chance.

We should be honest with ourselves and answer the question of who would have actually feared us in a two leg playoff match? To me, it definitely wasn't any team that made the playoffs. With the benefit of hindsight and without contemporaneous fan fervor fueled optimism skewing my thinking, I can look back and say we were legitimately the least likely team to win a playoff series that made it. Any team we would have faced would have done exactly what Toronto did to us, and we had no answer.

The Fabian Johnson to Atlanta rumor is surprising to me on the surface, but he has said in the past he wants to get more in touch with his American roots. He will also probably be one of the highest paid players in the league being American and really fuvking good. Villalba and Johnson together would cause major problems for a team like us.

And they are building a young defense. Drafting what appears to eventually be a quality CB and LB and they have a homegrown CB coming in this year. Their back 4 has a great chance to grow together into a decent, organized unit.

I don't think they'll make the playoffs next year, but they seem to be projecting upwards at least.

And no matter how terrible their stadium deal is, it would be good for the league for Chicago to be playing well IMO.

Miami FC folds and we get Poku back for free and low salary back as our super sub
Would Poku come back though.... just like Mullins, I could see him going elsewhere and going on a tear (provided the team figures out how best to cover for him).

This. RBNY went 20 games undefeated last year without changing up the way they played at all; no one could really adjust to it. It makes sense because the technical quality you need to consistently break a high press is a level above what is the norm in MLS.

It also takes away a lot of pressure from the back line - look at the cast of characters RBNY used this year in the back (heck, they made Aurelin Collin look good), Chris Duvall, etc. RBNY would just come out and punch teams in the mouth and most just capitulated and didn't punch back. Marsch realizes what wins in a league like MLS, have to recognize that.

Poku is now subject to the allocation list because of the hefty transfer fee we received for him. Miami FC looks sets for a move to the USL.

I think all of the NASL clubs except for Rayo OKC, FTL Strikers, and Cosmos are moving to the USL. FC Edmonton is actually the interesting case. They were really big NASL backers and might just wait out until the CPL next season.

Not that the two necessarily equate, but you sure FC Edmonton were big NASL backers? Looking at their average attendance, they were worst in NASL by a HUGE margin averaging barely 2000 fans this year and 2700 their entirety.
