NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Only if you can wash off the Wenger smell.

Seriously though. Isn't he exactly the profile of player that the league has trended towards for DPs?

- Borderline National Team player
- Squad player for UCL Side
- Champions League experience
- Under 30
- Nearing the end of his contract
- Pacey

He's getting considerable playing time this year and producing at a reasonable rate. I doubt they are ready to part with him.

I forget who the poster was on Twitter, but when asked which young big name would end up in MLS next, Walcott was the answer

IDK if there is a thread on 2017 college draft , too lazy too look to be honest. but I wonder who we will get. We currently sit 16th on the pecking order I believe. Should we go into this draft looking for the best player available? Move up? Trade up the pecking order by involving mix and or TAM?

The only two players I recall from last year are abu danladi and michael amick. But no clue how they performed last year. Danladi I know is a pacey forward with a nose for goal. And Amick was touted as one of the best centerbacks.

I haven't checked the available players, but in any draft with a pick that low, unless the team's major need is filled by a player still available, then you draft the best available player regardless of position. Squad depth can never be overlooked or the player can be part of a trade if they really don't fit. The only way a team in our position can trade up is by getting absolutely fleeced - the initial holder of the pick holds all of the negotiation power.

Personally, if there's a generation adidas player available when we pick, that's who we should take. Fill a roster spot with Cap relief for the next three years. Doesn't matter what position unless they're a keeper and having 5 keepers on the roster could get the FO fired.

Kind of really makes you question us taking Khiry over Roldan

There were alot of other teams that passed on Roldan too. Not every GA player makes it in the MLS. It should be a factor to consider but not the only one.

But Roldan was considered the consensus #2 till right before the draft. I think us passing on him spooked a lot of teams. I mean if CFG in their first draft with all their scouting doesn't want him and he's a GA, there must be something wrong with the guy. Right?

Point being, Roldan seemed like an MLS quality player, and maybe a future star before the draft. All things being equal, we should have chosen him for the cap relief. And then the question becomes, who rated Khiry so much higher then Roldan that choosing him was worth it in their eyes, even to the detriment of the cap?

Khiry was a consensus Top 5 player. The draft was considered a 2 man draft once Yaro decided to stay in school, but Khiry was a clear target for many teams amongst the next tier.

But the point remains that Roldan, despite falling in the draft, was considered a can't miss. He would have been the top rated player in the draft if not for Larin. He would fit in very well under PV

I think we all had that thought when it happened. Biggest screw up of all, really.

I'm sure there's some revisionist history here, but it definitely felt like if the forums were in control of those drafts last year, we would have ended up with Roldan and Marky Delgado. Then again, we also would have drafted Andrew Jean-Baptiste and started him at CB.

I thought it was like Khiry better be MUCH better than Roldan to warrant skipping him with the GA tag. Not looking good on that account.

There's maybe a little. I guess I should say that prior to the draft, we all just assumed that we wouldn't let Roldan past us with that second pick. After it happened, we all tempered our disappointment via fan-fueled excitement over our *HISTORIC* first draft pick. Rightfully so, because it would have been unfair to hold the mis-pick against Khiry.

Although, in retrospect, I wonder why he dropped so far. It seems unlikely everyone would get creeped out over a bad weekend when he had a strong body of actual work. MLSpiracy: there was some deal worked out to get him to sign the GA deal. While I like conspiracies, I like blaming Kreis more for his poor draft skills, so conspiricy DEBUNKED. Kreis just screwed up.

No. You're right. Our group here wanted Delgado and Roldan. We ended up with Dunn and Shelton.

Shelton could still end up being a super player for us, but right now he's a man without a position and we're short a box to box midfielder going into next year. Roldan isn't a star, but considering he has 0 cap impact, he's an absolute difference maker and would be for NYCFC next year. Pair him with Pirlo and a true CDM, invest your DP savings in a winger and the team is better next year.

Full disclosure, Roldan is no longer GA. But he's GA status would have helped us the last 2 years (or we could have saved GAM to use this year).
