NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

i wouldn't mind this at all. not as a DP though. if we can bring him in on high TAM, that'd be a great signing. he used to be an absolute menace before his injury and he's in need of solid playing time and confidence building. if he comes here with the right attitude, he could regain his form and get back on the national team. not a bad deal.

No one is getting Chiesa on a TAM deal. Well maybe Miami but no club operating under normal MLS rules.

Don’t love the age but 37 goals and 55 contributions in 60 games suggests he has something left in the tank.

Dude has always been a beast. One of my favorites.

Given how much the front office talks about placing a priority on chemistry, I'm not sure they would sign a guy who was convicted of conspiring to blackmail his own teammate. I also wonder if that is why he needs to work with a lawyer to try to secure a visa.

It's possible. He claims he was trying to help Valbuena get rid of the video by paying off the blackmailers, not committing blackmail, but to be honest, I wouldn't want him anyway. Not only is he too old, but he might be a bit of a headcase given all the wackiness in his wake.

There were a lot more controversies in addition to the Valbuena case, and not all of it can be explained away by wild youth.

Heck of a footballer, though. He was virtually unstoppable five years ago, just an absolute savage in the box. So much fun to watch.

Kinda crazy to think we are 45 days from the beginning of the season and haven’t touched or thought about the transfer market. I know it’s not the NYCiti way but imagine having to work well with a brand new team (sports and real life) with just over a month of practice and experience.

Feel like we never make a lot of moves in December. January-February is our happy zone in the winter window, and with the sporting director starting on Jan. 1, makes sense we would have a slow start.

The transfer window doesn't properly open for a few weeks (it was January 31st last year), so we really should not be upset there are no new signings yet.

I saw on BR football a random speculation for Michael Antonio as a cheap option for us with no transfer fee. I don't hate it especially with the Jamaican connections. I know he is coming back from serious injuries, but could be just as good as a mentor for Reid as a stopgap for Alonso.

Of course we should be. Nearly every other team in the league is using this time to improve their roster. Are we so much better than everyone that we can give them all head starts?

The transfer market is so large that I don't really think of it this way. We don't have the limited pool of players like in the other American sports, so I really don't think other teams doing their business in December impacts whether we are able to do our business in January and February.

To put numbers to this, here are our monthly signing totals over the last 9 (out of 10) seasons (excluded 2021):

Total is inclusive of all columns plus other "normal" signings. So your feel was correct. We ramp up hard in January. Then still hit it in February. Let's see what the next 7 weeks brings.
