I thought it was 2.5 as well but apparently ESPN reported it as a 1.5 with an additional 1 year option as seen below.

Interesting. Only counterpoint I can offer is that the Daily News article was written *after* he signed, while this was written *before*.
The ESPN article does not say, but my memory from other sources is that the 2017 option is his, not the club's. That is why it took weeks to get the deal done. He wanted the 2017 option. The club didn't. They blinked, because they're NYCFC and he's Pirlo.
yes i recall that whole third year delay...and i thought lampard was the only one who would end after 2016.
