The 2016 contracts options for Kwame Watson-Siriboe, Jeb Brovsky, Ned Grabavoy and Pablo Alvarez were declined.

Grabavoy will be eligible for Free Agency. Watson-Siriboe and Brovsky will be eligible to participate in Major League Soccer's Re-Entry Process.

Angelino, Shay Facey, Ryan Meara & Javier Calle have all returned to their original clubs after the expiration of their respective loan periods. Sebastian Velasquez's contract has expired.

The following players are already under contract for the 2016 season: Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, Frank Lampard, Mix Diskerud, Andoni Iraola, Chris Wingert, Jason Hernandez, Jefferson Mena and Andrew Jacobson.

New York City FC has exercised the 2016 contract options of:Josh Saunders, Eirik Johansen, RJ Allen, Connor Brandt, Mehdi Ballouchy, Kwadwo Poku, Tommy McNamara, Tony Taylor, Khiry Shelton and Patrick Mullins.

Looks spot on to me. Pretty hard to argue with since the guys coming back that some might have quibbled with are apparently already under contract.

Here's my updated salary spreadsheet. We have 19 players under contract, and an estimated ~$200k in salary cap. Remember, only the top 20 count against the cap, and my analysis below is heavy on estimates for DP cost, salary cap, and allocation money total.

If this is close to accurate, we can sign one guy for up to $200k and then additional players at the league minimum. Hopefully my estimate is very, very conservative.

And I count five international players: Lampard, Villa, Pirlo, Mena, and Iraola. I think everyone else counts as domestic. EDIT: Six internationals, I didn't count Johansen.

My take on our moves is that they are pretty much exactly as I would have done.

Wingert, Hernandez, and even Jacobson would have been borderline cuts at their salaries, because they are expensive for guys I view as best off the bench, but none of them had expiring contracts.

Ballouchy's option could have also been declined, but the savings wouldn't have been so much that I would complain about this one.

Top 20 count. We only have 19 players. So they all count.

John seems to be in some sort of roster purgatory. We have/had his rights, but his contract isn't counting against us, because there's almost no way we would have been under the cap last year with it on there, and he's never mentioned in these roster articles. I'm speculating, but it almost has to be the case.

Just throwing spit-balls here, but John may not be listed yet because he's on the Injured Reserve list and technically the season isn't over. I expect him to pop back on soon once the season is over, or a small statement will be released that they've mutually decided to part ways.

They didn't, but he's not currently on the roster on the website. I forgot John's salary didn't count towards the cap.

It is my nature to look for what is implied but not said. The announcement about these players reads: "Angelino, Shay Facey, Ryan Meara & Javier Calle have all returned to their original clubs after the expiration of their respective loan periods." Then there's news about Velasquez and then an expression of well wishes for them in the future. To me it is implied they are not coming back. But it's not stated. It does not specifically say a new loan will not happen. For example, it could have said the players "returned to their original clubs after the expiration of their respective loan periods, and their loans will not be renewed for 2016."
I think the club is very careful about how it words these things. I think there is a chance, just a chance mind you, that at least one of them could be coming back. Facey and/or Angelino are the most likely candidates to be sure. My guess is they want to see who we can pick up on defense through other channels first.

Awesome graph. Johansen is an international as well but we have 5 international spots open now. 4 from today plus Nemec's old spot.

It's interesting how many 1st years players (5?) had one-year contracts and needed options to be exercised, yet Mena had a multi-year contract (which is the norm).

Well....kinda. What NYCFC Nation is saying there is somewhat true when it comes to straight salaries being dropped. But you have to remember we are now taking full DP hits for Lampard and Pirlo. Also not sure if our cap hits increase for Mena/Iraola.
