Maxime Chanot - Still under contract. Reports he wanted to leave to back home to Europe.
Mix Diskerud - 1 year left on his MLS contract. He will need to be "loaned" out again. To clarify, he does not need to be bought out again. But he is still under contract with MLS.

And just for fun, Jason Kreis is in his final year of his four year NYCFC contract (if the first year included his learning in Manchester, then we're already done with him. But I don't think that's the case and it's actually four seasons). The last $1M will be paid to him in 2018 and then we're done paying him.

That sounds about right. He has his two option years to be picked up. An $8 Million transfer would be one of the largest in MLS history by the way. I want to say third largest?

To clarify, the buyout we used on him applies to the full duration of his contract. We get one buyout per season and he used the 2017 offseason one on him. We have another one for the 2018 offsesaon. His contract still hits our financial books (Income Statement), but not our budget book (MLS budget salary books). However, he is still under contract with MLS (as are all players) for 1 year and therefore needs to be loaned out (or possibly sold by the league).

The only reason I can think of to continue including him is as long as the club is paying him it has some effect on their willingness to spend elsewhere. As much money as they have, they also have a budget(apart from the regulated MLS salary budget).

Players remaining from season 1:

1. RJ Allen. His raise last season & Struna signing may have made him expendable for 2018.

2. Mix. He’s technically already been gone since mid-2016, it’s just bookkeeping at this point.

3. Lurch. His poor showing in game action this year may have finally given the club incentive to find a younger option with greater potential.

4. Mikey Lopez. His low cap figure and high work rate probably keeps him at the bottom end or bench in 2018. Skill be damned!
As per mgarbowski was not on the team in 2015.

5. TMac. His weakness were really exposed this year after a large pay hike. He still has a good reputation in MLS and it would make sense for the club to try to trade him.

6. Mena. I think is contract if over after his loan spell this season. If not, they loan him again to another sucker.

7. Pirlo. Retired.

8. Khiry. Should be in his last year of a 4 year rookie deal. Hasn’t shown any promise to develop into a valuable player. Hopefully we can trade him if another team likes his measurables. Where is Jason Kreis coaching these days?

9. Villa. Hopefully we have at least 2 more seasons before we retire his number.

If the club makes the moves it needs to, we really should only have Villa & Mikey left from season 1 going into season 4.

If you look around the league, Tommy McNamara and Khiry Shelton are probably appropriately paid for their production. If Tommy comes back, I am ok with that because of his positional flexibility.

If TMac is appropriately paid, could we please trade him for a guy of comparable stats that can run even somewhat fast? If he’s not actually scoring, at least be able to play the fast-paced game we excel at when we do decide to break out on a counter, or be fast enough to actually defend a counter.
