I'm hoping DP 3 is bigger signing than a aged retiree, regardless of his resume. And I can wait until the summer if it makes it happen.
The consensus seems to be a Defensive Mid, as far as what we would like. Seems to be the biggest hole that could be filled by a useful player. I don't see defensive DPs having the impact in MLS that attackers have. D mid is about as far back as I would go with a DP, a la Jermaine jones.
Good question. I think for the team, it's probably best to have a destroyer. If you guys think DDR is that guy, I'm on board.
But for me, I would rather win 5-3 than 2-1. Give me another attacking player. Maybe a RW.
But if you look at how this team has been assembled, everyone has come on a free. I would be focusing on guys out of contract around Europe for the next DP. If not Xavi, who still makes the most sense for a myriad of reasons, guys like Mikel Arteta should have been in the plans, but he just signed a 1 year extension today. Flamini would be available on a free, however. I just can't see them buying a guy. I don't know.
It came out on Bleacher Report this morning that TFC, LAG and NYCFC are planning to make an offer to Iker Casillas. How do you guys feel about that?
And as mentioned above, me too I'd rather have a winger as a DP. If DDR fails, we should aim for Bedoya maybe? What about Giuseppe Rossi after Villa retires? Or even have them both on the team and play Villa as a winger. Any toughts on that?

Agreed a def mid is the biggest need. Would allow AJ to be depth. I don't want a spine with Lampard and some old Euro come hot July.
some of the folks from overseas need to remember there are salary cap constraints here. Are we better served with a good player in Anrew Jacobson playing DM and another attacking player? Or, should we allow guys like Tony Taylor and Javier Calle to get run so we can bring in a DM? There is a trade-off here.
I would honestly wait and see how AJ does until the summer, or even the end of the season. Unless DDR is right there waiting to be signed.
I don't believe the report. Casillas mentions MLS and some 'source' adds the only 3 MLS teams they can think of. USA has a good pool of domestic goalies, we get much more bang for the buck with a DP field player.
Management should be taking stock of who will be available for a free transfer and look to make an impact signing for the 3rd DP (like Jermaine Jones for NE last year) who will boost the team for the rest of the season. Right now I agree with leaning toward a winger, but after 6-8 games we all will have a better idea of what position we need to strengthen the most.
I definitely want DDR for that D Mid position, but he would require a transfer fee most likely unless something happens. Someone on FB mentioned a player that could fill that role and that I found out would be out of contract in the summer. What do you all think of Michael Essien? He was for a while one of the best D mid's in the world and was nominated for the Ballon D'or and Fifa world player multiple times. He also was a massive key component for Chelsea for a long time. So Him and "He who shall not be named" would have a lot of experience playing mid field with one another which is always helpful. I'd personally take DDR over him, but if we are limited to just free transfers then he would be a great free pickup in a position we need
I completly agree with you. Honestly I feel that the directors are doing a good job. People are willing to see the 3rd DP signed before the match with Orlando but the smartest idea is to wait and see what happens, what are the team needs, etc.
