Exactly. Besides pay, he also faced the bench at Roma vs "a player" at moderate euro team vs face of a club/league. Easy choice to me.

Also, living abroad isn't always easy. These guys are young and for some people living abroad isn't as appealing even with the prestige and money. Who knows, people can disillusioned if they are off on their own for a while. And..money is always motivating.

Actually I think Michael Bradley has outrun everyone in this World Cup so far. Not surprising, dude is a training hoss (remember that beep test stuff a month ago?). But you're right, Fabian can play. Honestly, no one on the USA team has made me think they would be anything other than an asset at any team they play at. They're all really good.
Michael Bradley has ran well over 38,000 meters at the World Cup. The most of any player on any team.

Yet, everyone on the internet is tearing him apart. I can't stand it. Yes, he hasn't been playing as good as he used to for some reason but he hasn't been that bad either. Christ.

I'd still love him on NYCFC.

That is equal to 24 miles. 8 miles per game. Almost a mile every ten minutes.

Screw those ppl who keep using him as a scape goat. Id take him on this team in a heart beat. But no way that happens unfortunately.

As a Roma fan I was extremely surprised he went back to MLS at all. He wasn't a starter but he would have gotten good minutes with Strootman's injury. He also had some other offers from other teams like Hellas Verona and I think a couple teams in the EPL were interested.

But I guess no one was willing to match the amount that Toronto were willing to pay.
Yeah, I agree - no one will pay what Toronto paid for him, either in transfer fee or especially in salary.

But one thing I will note is that Bradley transferred before Strootman's injury. At that point not only was Bradley on the bench, but Roma were trying to buy even more CMs. He felt this indicated the club didn't really have him in their plans.

ESPN says that Ronaldo's knee injury has the powers that be at Madrid thinking of life after Ronaldo.... Says they'll target Raheem Sterling.

Ronaldo plays for Madrid for 2 or 3 more years then comes to MLS?

Muslera? Well obviously he'll be our back up goalie. I think Negredo also follows us which mean he'll partner up with Villa in attack.

One player that impressed me immensely this WC is Fabian Johnson. The dude can play!
I don't think anyone covered as much distance as him. He was making runs every time we went forward and put some great balls in the box. Plus he has a killer left foot. I think it was the Portugal ... Or maybe Ghana game when he was taking some shots from distance.
Just to follow up on this discussion, he's apparently on Barca's list.

Eta: and hat tip to me for calling this one. He' got a shout from Liverpool echo as a potential signing for the Reds.

I would love for our third DP to be a young player. Even if it's someone who uses NYCFC as a stepping stone to a European league, it would be great as it would get MLS some exposure.

While extremely unlikely, I would love to see the team find young talent from the Chilean Premier League, the Argentine Premier League or the Brazilian Series A. Perhaps someone similar to Gabriel playing on Santos in Brazil or someone similar to Peruzzi who started in Argentina (now in Serie A). Again, while extremely difficult, if NYCFC can get some future talent like that to start with (even if only for a few years), I think it would contribute to starting a great global brand.

I believe a strategy like that would give the team an immediate European and a South American presence while the future could then center on newly developed domestic talent. I think that strategy also allows the team to possibly have an immediate impact and begin building a history focused on winning.

If we have a couple of South American players, we'll dominate the fan base in Queens which would be the final nail in the coffin for the green guys.

I think even after the loss today, Ochoa will end up in Europe. He had a great Cup. I would love us to look younger. Someone in their late teens or early 20's.

That's why Meara makes a ton of sense. Young, healthy, and hungry. Also, there's a chance he plays for Ireland in the near future. Scoop him up ASAP, no way NYRB save a backup GK

Question from ignorance: has he shown himself to be at the level we require from his position on the bench? That is to say, when has he played and how good were the performances?
