Ian Joy said young, building for the future, (and in a forward position)...Gedion Zelalem (US U20 and Arsenal). He's probably not worthy of DP money yet, but it fits the bill.

I'd be ok with DP money. Take a gamble on him and show your fan base and the league that this isn't a 'farm team' and instead we are here to foster talent and USMNT stars. No Better way to do that then signing a player that could be an integral part of our 2018 WC squad.

Amazing talent, he was hurt a bunch this year. He may struggle with how physical MLS can be. I doubt Arsenal would be willing to take the injury risk.

Edit: just to clarify, there is no way Arsenal parting with him on a transfer, our only chance would be a loan and I dont think they will risk it.

Please no. Haven't gotten over celebrating him being released from Everton yet.

If you got 5 alerts, it's because I wanted to like your post 5 times and had to unlike it every time I wanted to like it again.

Alcaraz cost us probably 6 points in the Prem and definitely cost us in the knockout stages in Europa League. Please no. kun he might actually be worse than Wingert.

McShane is a guy I had mentioned before. Makes a lot of sense from a wage and position standpoint.

There is a better chance that I am sleeping with Kate Upton tonight than there is of 1) Zelalem being sold PERIOD and 2) of notorious snob Arsene Wenger EVER loaning a player to MLS. He has already stated that he will give him the opportunity to earn first team minutes at Arsenal this year, or he will be loaned out to another English side.

Loan him to Man City, Man City loans him out to NYC FC...The US Government doesn't allow him to leave the country. The system works.

Messi is in some tax trouble with the Spanish government. The US isn't a tax heaven, but I'm sure that CFG would settle his debts if he agreed to play, though he'd be going to the wrong City.

I don't think that's allowable. Can only be registered to play with 2 teams in one season if I'm not mistaken.

Yura Movsisyan is flying to America to take a physical. He may be signing with an American club.

More fuel:
RSL still own his rights, but this guy starred for Kreis there in 2009 when they won the MLS cup.

Just 27 years old. Won't cost an international spot. Has had MLS success. Has been great for Spartak Moscow.

He would cost a decent transfer fee ($5-10M maybe?) plus we would need to trade for his rights from RSL, but it seems like a target that makes sense for a number of reasons.

EDIT: After a google search, most chatter assumes that it would be RSL just resigning him, but that would be a hefty transfer fee for that club. In addition, an article from about three weeks ago mentioned that MLS teams other than RSL have expressed interest. Not to mention, RSL already has 3 DPs.

He's had a very good showing in Russia. He's a good player. Wasn't he going to try and play for the USMNT at some point??

I wonder if RSL would trade one of the 3 DPs somewhere. Plata, Beckerman and Morales I think.

Former RSL player, hmmm?

I would like to officially start speculating wildly that none other than Samuel Eto'o will be joining NYCFC.

"Eto'o, 34, joined Samp[doria] from Everton in January and is under contract with the Genoa outfit until June 2018.

However, the former Inter Milan player has failed to impress in his second spell in Serie A, scoring just two goals in 18 league appearances for Samp, and has been linked with a move to the United States to play in Major League Soccer."

I mean, sure, you could be cynical and say that the last thing we need is an underperforming, aging striker, but… well, I guess that's really all you need to say.

God I hope not.

I'll just copy my response from the Everton thread:

Eto'o has become so disappointing. He was shit for two clubs this year and now he wants to find a bigger paycheck. Plus his attitude is toxic with the rumors of him causing locker room problems at Everton and walking out of his first day of training at Sampdoria.

I remember him complaining that practice was too much and wasn't into working that hard.
