Official Vent Thread

Better than the 3 guys you pointed me to last time? One of whom responded (though his promise the form guide is returning has not yet panned out).
As someone who works in web design, don't expect a change like that to come so quickly, usually we try to roll out a lot of changes at once with a single deployment and it could be they're lining up a bunch of a features like that. It happens that the designers and programmers were in the middle of adding more stuff but since there's a hard deadline with the season beginning, mls was like "okay let's just release what we have now and we'll worry about the rest later", and I think that's very likely what happened here.

Redesigned MLS website still has no Form Guide. Also
  • The Opta field chart of passes, shots, crosses, blocks, tackles, etc is gone and I don't think it's coming back and that will be missed.
  • There is no boxscore. There is a Players stats page, which has some added useful info, but is also missing some including an indication of who started (which you can't always tell by minutes played).
  • The Match Summary is harder to read and pick out goals from Cards from substitutions. The info is there, but not as clear and I don't think it is something that just takes getting used to.
  • Every single highlight video is preceded by the same 15-second SeatGeek ad. This was sometimes the case on the site in prior years, but not to this extent. I keep my Privacy Badger extension off for the site because it interferes with fantasy and Pick-6, but I will turn it on and off as necessary to avoid watching the same commercial several times over and over just to watch highlights from a handful of games.

Idk if I'm just missing something or not, but is this not the stats you are looking for https://www.mlssoccer.com/competitions/mls-regular-season/2021/matches/nycvscin-04-24-2021/stats ? Are the Opta stats different than these?

Well this guy is the boss of all those guys. But he likely isn't going to reply directly on Twitter. So maybe reach out to the same three again.

You can also call up MLS directly, lol: (212) 450-1200

I don't see tackles etc. though.
On the timing issue, I get tradeoffs. But implementing a half-done design change is a choice and I feel that's subject to fair criticism.
And no, those are not the field charts I mean. It's this one.

I found this in my screen shot folder. I'm not sure what game that is (late June 2018, I could look it up more easily if the form guide existed) but this seems to be limited to every completed pass by one of our opponents, and it's really neat because you can see they had a kazillion completed passes, but almost never got anywhere near our goal. You could make it show anything you wanted: by one team, or both, for full games, or by halves, or by other specific time periods. And you could focus on almost every individual action you wanted: completed passes, incomplete passes, key passes, assists, shots, goals, and all sorts of defensive actions.

That passing network geometry thing tells me much, much less than I get out of the chart above.

the team or MLS definitely has heatmap data for every player. the club tweeted one out with Gudi's.

guess MLS is just lagging behind on updates or missed their API subscription payment and need to find some money for it first. lol.

I had the Portland/Houston game on late last night in the background, and noticed that they're still projecting graphics over the area seated areas. I don't think it was the case that there were no fans in the lower sections, I think I noticed that at certain angles you could see people underneath. Why is this still a thing?

D.C. did the same thing in Week 1, but interestingly, we didn't -- we just had little ads that showed up on each endline. I guess each team has their choice, and I'm assuming ad placement there costs a pretty penny.

isn' t this what you want?

granted the other stuff you've been saying is still true (like not all the info is on one page, etc)

HOW TO GET THERE:

1) click on the game
2) click on stats menu item for the game
3) select players, not clubs
4) scroll down to the bottom

Yes. I eventually found that and posted here, but in a different thread:

I guess I thought it was time to move the web redesign discussion out of venting and back into General MLS. But that did mean someone could miss the full discussion.

ETA: And we still need the form guide!

Gotta love coming onto the forum and seeing 50+ new messages in the past day.... only for them to be because the club screwed something up yet again.

Just wait until this Yankees/Red Sox postponement kicks another one of our games over to RBA and the front office says "My bad -- Philly is actually a Tier 1 game, and Dallas is Tier 2."

For the last year we have all been so fixated on not getting covid that i forgot what a regular minor cold/virus of sorts feels like. Meh. I don't think it's covid because vastly different symptoms, though.
