RBNJ Postmatch

to be fair they were all bad today....but with Mena his one on ones tend to be good....but when he has to cover or zone mark...he gets exposed badly... i dont agree on the second game in YS he was alright and got some key stops....that is probably why PV gave him the start.....honestly well see how the new CB is....i assume mena will be the one to be benched.
Positives though were that wingers did a decent job pushing for goals. You're going to give up possession a little bit but the aggression is +. Jack looked like he was 19 but we had some aggression and if that ball is six inches lower or Lampard has backup, we're talking 2-3 with 30 minutes to go!

Our best backline has been Matarrita---Mena---Brillant---RJ. Chanot will definitely help the CB connection, whomever Vieira decides to remove. That being said, we need to depth on the flanks. With Mata out, we've seen RJ move to LB where he is a downgrade compared to his natural RB position. Vieira has said he wants players playing in their natural positions and while RJ may be a utility option, he has been more productive on both ends of the field while playing on the right.

So who are our depth options?
- Shannon Gomez. We've seen him only against the Cosmos where he played well. While we haven't seen him versus any MLS competition he's out for the season.
- Andoni Iraola. A natural RB but has improved considerably playing as our CDM, so we can't move him.
- Diego Martinez. I don't know why we haven't seen more of him. We were saying that he would be Mata's replacement on the left for international games, etc.
- Ethan White. We all know about Ethan White.
- Jason Hernandez. He's a CB and doesn't have the ability for overlapping runs or anything going forward on the attack. When he's on the field as full back, we're essentially playing 3 CBs.

When the opponent is able to attack fifty times full speed, unchecked through midfield, no defense in the world can stop them every time

Forget pigeons or bluebirds, we may be locked in to the smurfs.

honestly only the red bull fans use this....i dont see anyone else using it. i see the whole mancity B etc

i still dont see how this came about.

The performances of White and Mena are just horrible these 2 players cause the most damage to our back line . Brilliant had a tough game but he was also put into bad situations by white and Mena.

How bad is Martinez if he can not start over white?

Let's hope chanot is eligible to play next week.

Our midfield was horrible today pirlo did not seem interested in playing today, Iraola was invisible and Lampard tried but was ineffective .

I blame the coaching staff for the loss white and Mena should have been on the bench with Hernandez and Martinez and mix should have been on the bench, could of used him on the attack rather than Taylor who contributed nothing .

The subs were embarrassingly bad. Iraola for Taylor? Immediately scored upon right up the middle. Hernandez in for RJ? Is that a joke?

Lineup was a joke again with the fullbacks switched again.

Marsch sure made the most out of that fine. Can't blame the refs for losing this one, but, man, were the refs impressionable. It was clear within 30 seconds that they were on the take. At least the refs didn't rig a game we could have won.

Vieria has no clue. A youth soccer coach promote to the MLS. Still think he needs to go.

I remember noting this to someone after the SKC match, and I wonder about it again today. There have been matches where the Lampard-Pirlo-Iraola midfield have been really good and I think it is legitimately a bit part of the recent success. But, that doesn't mean that it has to always be one size fits all.

SKC was chalked up to exhaustion after a long week, and I'm sure that was a big part of it. However, it also felt like a lot of the same things happened today. That might be the right midfield in matches where we can control tempo and, towards that end, I'd probably run it out against Colorado this weekend (they are good, but generally cede possession and play defense).

However, we've now gotten torched in the midfield by two teams that play aggressively in midfield and who have midfielders who are good passers. That sort of match might be one where you need a guy like Bravo to really break play up and cause some havoc. Just something to watch as the season goes on.

A few other thoughts:

- About the only decent stuff that seemed to happen came down the left side between RJ and McNamara. It wasn't hugely productive other than TMac's two phenomenal strikes, but there was some decent play there at times that created a few possibilities, even with RJ playing on the wrong side. On the other hand, we got so little out of White-Harrison, all of which just make all the more clear to me that we would get a lot more out of Jack with a real FB behind him. I don't know what to even think of the fact that when RJ had to go off and the match was pretty much lost, we STILL didn't bring Martinez in to give him some minutes.

- I was sitting around the 30 yard line on the side we were attacking in the first half when Villa and Harrison kept getting whistled for offside. It is pretty much impossible to tell live for sure, but it seemed like they were largely getting the calls right. Maybe I'll stomach the replay at some point. I'm sure there were examples to the contrary and, of course, there was a ton of noise about referring before and after the match, but to this lay person's eye, the refereeing was, at best, the fifth or sixth most important factor in us getting well and thoroughly beaten. I don't care if PV talks about that publicly in order to distract or whatever, but I can't imagine he believes that was really the biggest issue.

- Interesting that Marsch started Grella on the right and Muyl on the left, which is contrary to how they usually play. I imagine some of it might have been wanting Muyl tracking back on Harrison since, by all accounts, he has a tremendous work rate. That made it very tough for Jack when combined with the lack of FB support as noted above.

- I've been somewhat harsh on Mix at times, but when recent trades and injuries have left you with Tony Taylor as the only quasi-offensive player on the bench, you have to dress Mix. You have to have some offensive depth given the weather and the fact that the RB are often a team that gets an early lead.

- Ultimately, the table is still in a good spot. Given that we were the team with two road games, the mini-round robin at the top of the east over the past two weeks came out okay. We need to protect home turf against Col and LA and should hope to get at least 4 out of 6 against CLB and Orl given they are not strong home teams. SJ is sort of a wildcard.

Harrison definitely had his first 19 year old game for us. We also had a few guys who played 30 plus year old games for us.

Can somebody Please answer nicely ?? How much can the heat play a roll ? They're Human's first! and this whole country burning up! We've had to call 911 3 times this week cause people are fainting at work at Home Depot and yes they give us water to. Or is it Just Plain Luck ?

Both teams played in the heat.

I think chanot is the rb depth. He plays Cb and rb.
