I've been tracking the starting lineups throughout the season, mostly because I like to see how players have floated in and out of the lineup. There is, for sure, lots of variables that this simple table does not control for but, for whatever, it is worth, here is out record with each player in the starting lineup.

A few other notables:

(1) No surprise to anyone here, but when Allen and Matarrita both start, we are 6-2-2 (2.0 ppg), and one of those two losses was when Allen was at LB and Mata at LW vs. SKC in July. Relatedly, when neither Hernandez or White start, we are 4-0-1 (2.6 ppg).

(2) When Villa, Harrison and McNamara all start, we are 8-1-2 (2.36 ppg).

(3) The Lampard/Pirlo/Iraola trio is 8-3-3 (1.93 ppg).

Full game-by-game table attached. Apologies for any transcription errors!

What's the PPG when RJ is at left back and Hernandez at right back?

If it's a low number, it's justifies our point to have the Martinez/Allen combo instead. Attacking fullbacks are the best fullbacks.

Just looking at the game by game of who played, but without checking the individual box scores for positions, I think Allen at LB is 3-3-3 (1.33 ppg) with RB having been a mix of Hernandez, White and Mena.

Break-down by RB is:
Hernandez - 1-1-2 (1.25 ppg)
White - 1-2-1 (1.00 ppg)
Mena 1-0-0 (3.00 ppg), though this was the recent DC match where we were terrible until the 2nd half when the formation switched.

However, all of these game came during the second half of the season when we have been a much better team generally. The first match where Allen played LB was 5/29 vs. Orlando. If you look from that date forward:

Allen at LB: 3-3-3 (1.33 ppg)
Other games since 5/29: 7-2-1 (2.20 ppg). Of these 10 games, we were 4-0-1 (2.60 ppg) when Allen was at RB and 3-2-0 (1.80 ppg) when he wasn't starting.

That's really great stuff. Some of the individual stats can be a little misleading since there was a big change in roster at midseason and thus you are often measuring more than just that player's individual effect. This would not be the case if the lineup changes were more random. So, for example, Mix's games coincide with the period before before Harrison and Lampard were playing and before Iraola was moved to midfield, and thus the numbers measure more than just what Mix was (or was not) contributing.

That's not true of the things you highlighted in your original post and about Allen just above. Showing the effect of several players being together or out is pretty convincing. I think it reinforces what we've been saying about the back four and the front three.

Would be interesting to have two lines for Iraola - at RB and at CDM.

Totally agree. There is a lot of "noise" in the data.

Iraola at RB - 0-3-2 (0.4 ppg)
Iraola at MF - 10-4-4 (1.89 ppg)

Lopez the joker. Mix the invisible man. Harrison the boy wonder. Tommy Mac the bulldog. Allen the warrior. Poku the shameful mistake. Lampard the Clint Eastwood the good the bad the ugly. Villa our Batman. My Andrea the best for last.
