Right. His ability to control a sharply hit ball by popping it up and then overheading it. Just great control.

This is entirely correct. Think also of the pass he made to help set up one of Lampard's late season goals. He was on the sideline with his back to the goal. The ball came to him, and he popped it up in the air, then kicked it backwards over his head hitting a teammate in stride who laid off to Lamps for the goal. It was Mix's pass that broke the defense.

I remember that, it was the goal Lampard scored against DC United in the very first minute.
