The Outfield

Finally did the corner kick thing
Do you consider out-swingers better or is or just that you need to mix it up and use both?

I think a mix of both so that opposing defenses can't key in on one particular tactic.

I initially thought last season that outswingers were better, but I think it was just because they were new for the team and opponents didn't quite expect it. But then the added chances from them waned off a bit, then the club starting going back to a mix of in and out swingers and the inswingers then were much more efficient than they were during the beginning of the season when that was all the team ran.

I've really been amazed at the types of movement Rob has put together to free up guys for chances. Going to share two other corners later today that didn't make it into the article (and also didn't work, but that was due to lack of execution, the design was brilliant).

I believe in-swingers score better than out-swingers.

The modern thinking is that if you are targeting the middle of the box on the corner kick, if the taker over hits you potentially still can generate a chance on goal at the back post.

On out-swingers, the same overhit ball is going out of the box.

I got the chance to talk with Luis Barraza on his new contract extension, our alma mater Marquette, set piece and goal kick tactics, and the Ronny Out signs.

How difficult was it to get this interview?

It wasn't terribly difficult.

To be honest, this was my first time requesting an interview with a player. It seems like maybe the player also has to agree to do it (makes sense), so I'm not sure if our Marquette connection helped in that regard or not.

Curious, actually, how you scheduled something like this?

Mailbag time! You can post your questions here.

Does Gudi start in place of Malte?
What was the tactical turning point of this season?
Was last night's victory one week too early to introduce my boys to sports happy tears?
Leave aside the eye test and describe Medina's consistent inclusion as part of the starting 11 focusing exclusively on his positive impact.
How would an MLS Cup victory enhance season ticket sales for next season?
What would an MLS Cup victory do for the much-maligned reputation of pigeons?
Does an MLS Cup victory change the mothership's output and/or strategy on roster moves with more eyes on the club?
Does an MLS Cup victory affect the stadium search in any respect?

I moved my previous post over to the Portland Game thread. I did not mean to insert my content into the Outfield Question thread. I just lost sight of which thread I was in when I read JC's question.
