Because I work for myself and its my slow season I have time for this.
A week ago there were 4146 tickets available on the site for season tickets.
Today there are 3875 seats open. That's 271 season tickets sold in the slow holiday season without
any real team news.
Also the bleachers are for sale now and I think last year the team sold them as match day only but I could be wrong about that.

I'm pretty sure they also opened up those lower sections behind home plate for season ticket sales. IIRC all those seats around section 20 were deliberately left empty until they opened them up for single games tickets sales late in the season.

Correct all around. The bleachers were single game only last year - they did a lot of group sales there. The area around home plate was covered for a while, but they eventually opened it up given ticket demand (and relocating the band).

Nice! What's this I hear about a 50% retention rate? That's clearly not the case

I believe very little of what a sales department says because it's all spin, but..... Could it have been that some former STH did not renew while there were others like myself that added a seat or more to their existing block? For a period of time, retention went down while sales went up?

Feel free to correct me if I'm in error, but I thought I read a post on this very site saying that 50% nonsense was started by the usual haters.

IIRC, it started right after the renewal process kicked in and there literally wasn't a legit chance for STH to get around to re-up. Of course it goes without saying the village idiots who hang on every bit of NYCFC minutia, desperately praying for something to go wrong, splooged all over the 'net.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. As I said, if this is nothing more than just my imagination running away with me (once again), straighten me out.

Right. The 50% figure was from pretty early in the renewal process. Still, my guess is that the retention of Founding Members will be lower than people expect, but it will be effectively balanced by new members and Founding Members buying more. I predict 19K members when the season starts.

The story came out after the Red Bulls released their STH retention numbers.
the 50% number came from this article in EOS: http://www.empireofsoccer.com/breaking-surpass-tickets-41103/
very early in the NYC renewal process. Keep in mind the RB renewal process is year long: http://www.empireofsoccer.com/sources-record-renewal-40100/
"With some 8,000-8,500 renewals already accounted for, the Red Bulls are projecting to secure 10,000 renewals this month in the second phase of their drive."
I was an RB STH and I much prefer the NYC approach of waiting until nearer the end of the season. RB ticket sales basically harangued you all year and increased renewal incentives as the season progressed, which caused a lot of bitterness for those that renewed early

Did anyone at Red Bull take marketing classes? The NYCFC approach is so simple, you renew quicker we give you more points.

I guess that's why Red Bull Salzburg-Leipzig-São Paulo-Harrison poached Amy Scheer away from NYCFC. Looks like after 20 years of fail in the Season Ticket Dept., they needed someone to show them how to do it right.

I don't know how she is going to help...Come to see the Red Bulls play in Harrison, NJ. We're only a train ride (or two) away and will leave you disappointed every season.

Until there are more than [5] of each item, and evidently items that typically didn't sell well in the store, that points can be used on, I fail to see exactly what good they're doing any of us - they're really just a membership red herring. Visiting the training facility would have been interesting if I didn't have a full-time day job, and maybe the pregame coach-talks could have shed light on Kreis' insane decisions, but most of what I see offered are pretty blah rewards. Now if Pirlo would come to my daughter's 1-year birthday party (thanks JayH for the idea) with a bottle of wine for her parents, then I'd spend all the points from my three seats on that..... but otherwise, it looks like I may just hoard them like George Clooney's character did in the movie Up in The Air.

after 20 years in the NY metro area and the remaining inability to fill a world class stadium, it's very clear the answer to your question is a resounding NO. :D

I'm just saving up all my points until we can snag a couple of fancy upgrades for a game. Really, it's just a bit of fun, or a way to garner a bit of engagement.

It's like the prize tickets you would get from arcade machines. Build up a mass of otherwise worthless tickets, before cashing them in on a limited set of prizes that are worth far less than you spent on games to get the tickets.

There are some prizes that are worthwhile. The meet-and-greets are supposed to be good, so long as we win. And, if I could snag a spot for my kid when the teams walk out... Priceless!

I used points to do both last year -- meet and greet after the home opener and my boy was escorted Javier Calle out on to the field, I think against SKC. Both were well worth it, although the metallic pen we used to get all the signatures on his jersey was not a sharpie and they all washed out!
