How about Villa's Face when Khiry in the 11' hits the side netting and missed that goal...? - Priceless. Khiry lost his mojo after that miss, you could see it on his face. It's tough to even think straight after a miss like that.

That clip has meme written all over it. I was crying thinking to myself all the things he could have said. But in my mind, it goes something like this ... *foul language warning*

It wasn't just Shelton - anyone else notice Villa get incredibly pissed off with Saunders in the second half after he botched a clearance and gifted it to Toronto? So pissed, in fact, that we saw the return of 'static, hands on hips on the halfway line' David Villa, which is my least favourite incarnation of our beloved captain.

I did find the atmosphere at the stadium pretty sedate, though the SG section was trying to keep the noise up. The rest of us in the general crowd never really got going, though there was a brief "NYC! NYC!" chant before the restart after the second Toronto goal. I dunno... I guess I'd just hoped for a little more oomph from us in the stands for opening day. Maybe we're all just skeptical after last year, or maybe I should remember that this is the town where people stand still with their arms folded at concerts too.
.

Glad you mentioned this. I thought was the only one feeling this way. I felt the same way about the mood as dusk fell. It was somber and somewhat boring. I really missed City Beats this past Sunday.
. Last season I would get to YS 2-3 hours before games started and it was great that as soon as I got off the BX6 bus , I would hear them playing their stuff with passion and enthusiasm as the local crowd of the neighborhood dancing, clapping and cheering to the beat of their drums. too bad they been relegated to a few minutes during halftime. Some folks in this forum criticized them. I loved them. They added festivity and Brazilian Carnival atmosphere on game days that passers by would ask me what was going on.

I truly missed City Beats. During the second goal it was only about 20 secs that they played and it made the goal more festive. Changes are always seen as good. In this case not so, with the draw its was a somber way to end a happy Sunday

How about Pirlo's sublime pass to Villa that went for naught? There may not be a better lifter pass all year in the league - dropped it over the defender perfectly.
Yup. I really think Villa should have buried that. I think his dink was a casual shot because his team was up 2. I don't think he loops that one if the game is tied.

Did anybody else notice Pirlo getting repeatedly pissed at Saunders for not immediately rolling the ball to him when he was 5ft away? He had to point at the ground to show where he wanted it at his feet, and yet Saunders would hesitate to give it to him. I've never seen Pirlo visibly agitated at a teammate and yet he was completely frustrated a few times.

I don't blame Villa for thinking it was going to be a walk in the park, because getting a third there would've been the nail in the coffin, but I do blame him for being to lazy on the chip - he needed to bury it and crush their morale.

Khiry is soft and he went into a shell after being yelled at. Some people react to being yelling at and others need encouragement... Khiry folds and isn't the firey competitor Villa is. He's too timmid and I think being embarrassed like that shook his confidence.

Here's a little item that definitely falls under the "I'm too easily entertained" banner.

I was just watching highlights of the match and I love the way the fans in the stadium have picked up on the: "The New York City FC goal scored by number seven, David.......VILLA!" Sounds really good on the tube.

I laughed when the announcer said Villa after we did, felt like an episode of Dora the Explora in the best way

No doubt about it.

I still feel pissy too, Don't hold it against our beloved Captain mara-Villa. All that hair must be adding weight and slowing down Saunders:mad:

Sadly I am glad I have Gio on my fantasy roster. I think we need to teach every player how to head home a ball (looking at you Mikey). But I love the kid I hope he turns out well even though I see him being a one and done. Don't know why. Anyways I thought the play was nice and we still faired alright against their added pressure in the second half. I'm wondering where Poku was tonight cause we could have used him in the box.
My lineup predictions for next week
TT 99--Villa--Mendoza
Lamps--Pirlo-- Mix
Mata-Mena-Brillant-white
-----Saunders---
Take out T99 and put Bravo behind Pirlo.

4-1-3-2

Trust me will cause damage! If nycfc can keep teams to under 1.5 goals per game average we will make the playoffs. Villa and Mendoza will gel and excel together.

That said, I hope that Villa also learns from this. Maybe PV talks to him or something. I know Villa is a fiery competitor, and wears his emotions on this sleeves. But some players react to yelling and some don't. Khiry apparently does not.

Now, I'm not holding anything against Villa here. But there is some room for Villa to grow from that from a captain perspective.
