Ehhh Khiry needs to nut up. This is a professional sport not some u-14 tournament. He made a poor decision and an even poorer shot. You learn, you move on, and hopefully next time he makes that pass, we get an easy goal...and his emotions remain in tact.
I don't disagree with you here. Khiry definitely needs to learn and move on from this. And hopefully going forward he won't let his emotions take him out of the game.

I'm just saying there is also room for Villa to grow here as the captain of our team. Different players respond to different things. It appears Khiry does not respond very positively to being yelled at like that.

Khiry definitely has a lot to learn from from that miss. I just think there is something there that Villa can also take note of.

When did this happen? I missed the rabona
Mid first half if I remember correctly. Just watched the game again last night and was looking for it also as I remembered seeing him do it at the game. But it's definitively during the first half.

Mid first half indeed. I seem to remember him being somewhat near the right corner flag and hit the rebona as a pullback to somebody at the top of the box.

Pulled it off beautifully although no one else in my section even seemed to notice!

Exactly! I think it went to Khiry.

How about Villa's Face when Khiry in the 11' hits the side netting and missed that goal...? - Priceless. Khiry lost his mojo after that miss, you could see it on his face. It's tough to even think straight after a miss like that.

Incase you missed it - it's down at the bottom of the page

Villa's making that face because if Shelton had more awareness, he could have squared it to Villa to tap into the empty net, instead of trying to control it and hit an off-balance shot (which he predictably slammed into the side netting). I agree with Villa there. Consistent with the Shelton narrative: fast and strong, low soccer skills/brain.

I agree, but we're talking about a kid who's played just minutes of professional soccer so far. We drafted him last year and he was out for most of the season. Now he's back in shape and will learn to think like a winger as he gets more minutes. I think we should keep Mendoza on the right and alternate Khiry/TT on the left until we get a clear idea of who should be starting there. You can always switch it up and play any of the 3 on either side, which PV definitely has done with TT/Khiry. We need to somehow get him minutes without sacrificing too much. He'll get better, but I don't think he should be cemented in as a starter yet. I'd start the more technical (and fast) Mendoza and use Khiry as an impact sub to run over tired fullbacks. From just 20 mins Mendoza looks like the more complete package.

Khiry had a clear shot on goal. It would have required the same amount of skill to complete the pass to Villa (angle, speed, etc) as it would have required to bury the shot. If he doesn't have the skill for one, there's no reason to believe there's skill for the other. Villa is making that face because that's what Villa does whenever he thinks he should have gotten the ball. He is indiscriminate.

As has been mentioned above, Khiry needs thicker skin if he wants to be a better player mentally. Villa needs greater emotional control to know which of his teammates needs what from him if he wants to be a better captain.
