U.s. To Host 2016 Copa America

It's karma for that disgraceful chant. and because Chile is a badass team.

And yet chile was also fined more heavily and have to play next two games away from their home stadium so it's not only one team that needs to get their act together. And something like this will take time to change.

Though the federation and players should still continue to the PSA's to end it.

Also was very very disappointed with the Mexican fans. They chanted during the Chile national anthem, completely drowning it out, and then continued to throw things on the field after Chile scored.
.

The thing is that chile's national anthem has an a Capella part at the end so there is no music so that's why people think it's done.....same thing when the pitbull song started playing while that part was still going on against Argentina

Regardless the better team won handily, I've seen this before with nycfc and in person so it's easier to cope.

You can spin it any way you want, but the facts are that its hate speech, The players & team & governing bodies have told the fans to stop, and it's highly insensitive in the aftermath of Orlando. But hey, it's tradition so we shouldn't expect these fans to have common courtesy to their opponent.

As an aside to this, I had many interactions with Costa Rican, Paraguay, and Ecuador fans from the 3 USMNT games I went to, and they were all great. Super friendly, exchanged some good-hearted banter, fun to talk to and courteous.

Yeah the Ecuadorian, Haitian and Peruvian fans I encountered were all great. This was my first experience with high level international soccer and it was a great experience. The passion the fans had for their team was very impressive.

dude quote me or tag me if you reply to me.

and yes it is something that needs to stop, but again it aint gonna stop overnight even with tragic events. ( even though the word means man w*ore, though there are homophobic connotations, puta is just w*ore)

again, campaigns will help but it will be a process, i mean hell it took decades here to get civil rights act signed.

and stop taking the high horse that we dont have our own problems with sports fans...shit happens everywhere here.

If you think calling a male player a whore isn't homophobic than you are completely out of touch with reality and language. It really is that simple. But you're also defending a group of fans that are notorious for throwing bags of urine on opposing players.

And conflating this with championing Civil Rights in the states is a red herring and straw man.

just saying an example that stuff takes time....like anything major, and no im just telling the definition of the word....i dont even say the word in games, or in any context in my life ( not even in nycfc games where i hear it every game)

and this whole piss thing is alwasy the defense people bring.. for the one time it may have happened people assume its always piss instead of what it probably is....beer. have you been hit and actually confirm its piss? anytime im showered with beer at nycfc games should i assume its piss too?

are their actions shameful? of course. should it stop? of course. but i wont ever stop cheering for the national team....just like nycfc i wont stop cheering for nycfc even though we have the worst reputation in MLS for the people getting beated up and cut and punched in the face and all the thuggery and then cops interfering.

thats all im saying really just my two cents.

It's hard to debate opinion guys.

On another note. Any good places to watch tomorrow's match in Manhattan? I remember watching the World Cup at Terminal 5 on the west side and they did an awesome job. More like a viewing party than just watching the game. Any suggestions?

This is the writing on the Time Warner guide for the USA semifinal match:

"United States, led by Kyle Beckerman, will rely on their strong defense as it takes on the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, and no. 1 ranked Argentina in a semifinal match."

Whoever wrote this should be fired.

Well considering how many goals have been scored at the Copa, how few the US team has given up along with two shutouts, it's fair to say they have a strong defense. And the reference to Beckerman is to entice the ganja crowd.

Haha. We don't even know if he'll be in the lineup! That's funny.

Kyle Beckerman will start with JJ out. He plays smart and has big game experience. Expect a good game out of him.

Like the announcers mentioned, CONCACAF is not on par with CONMEBOL.

US, and Mexico can't compete with Colombia, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil (eventhough they were awful at this tournament, and they do poorly on Copa America). We can compete with the likes of Ecuador, Peru, and beat Bolivia, Venezuela, and Paraguay.

The USMNT reached furthest than Mexico, big win. And didn't lose a 7-0 like Mexico did, to the #1 ranked team in the world.

We need more tournaments like this, the USMNT needs the challenge to get better. Even if it means losing, we will learn, but we need challenges the likes of South American teams. (No offense to other CONCACAF region).

Just happy the USMNT reached this far. Looking forward to seeing Messi in the Final :)

The USMNT had zero shots tonight.

Not zero shots on target, zero shots. At all.

One corner. Zero shots.

My god.

No shots....we couldn't really string more than two passes together so I guess that's no surprise. That was more frustrating/disappointing than the score for me.

Argentina are most probably the best team in the world. They'll probably make me eat that by losing the final but based on watching plenty of this tournament and the Euros they seem by far the most in form, in depth, and offensively dominant team in either.

Missing the guys didn't help. We would of almost definitely lost by multiple goals anyway but maybe we would have kept possession for any whatsoever length of time

Wondo has no business anywhere near the national team. For all his MLS goals he's never come close to doing anything worthwhile at this level. Pullisic should have started
