U.s. To Host 2016 Copa America

Well at least we can look forward to the USA in the Olympics, nope

Well at least we can look forward to the USA in the Confederations Cup, nope

Pack it up until 2018 boys and girls, if we qualify

EDIT: 2017 Gold Cup, that's happening...

No shame in that result.
Maybe there's no shame in the scoreline, but there's absolutely shame in the total inability to play soccer at all. The US couldn't complete passes, barely had any attacking runs, created zero chances and took zero shots. That can't entirely be credited to amazing defending by Argentina; it was garbagey, half-hearted attempts in the vague direction of attack and a carnival of turnovers (I'm looking at you, Michael Bradley).

Kyle Beckerman will start with JJ out. He plays smart and has big game experience. Expect a good game out of him.

Haha, they have the best player in the world and premier league starters coming off the bench. Our best players play against guys like jason hernandez every week. The talent gap is so high and it shows in that every single one of their players can stop a ball, can make a pass under pressure., etc. I give us a lot of credit for getting this far, we play, as a team, much better than the sum of the parts. I'm so proud of our team, even though we lose than game 99 out of 100 times.

This about sums it up. Sitting on their bench: Aguero, Di Maria, Lamella. Starting for us: Beckerman, Wando, Zusi. Their defenders are better on ball than many of our mids and forwards. Looking at you Zardes. We still have a way to go but the USMNT is making progress.

Seriously. Just about every attacking player on their team would be the best US attacker.

We can quibble at the margins about the effect of the suspensions, the questionable Wondo start, etc, but it is hard to imagine any of it would have mattered.

Ultimately, we beat two middling teams and lost to two very good teams. The Ecuador match was the swing match and, having won that and played well, on the whole, the tournament is a moderate success.

This game exemplifies why it is important for players to face top competition. When going up against elite players on the Argentina side, our guys just wilted. They were nervous, tentative, disorganized. They looked like they hadn't seen anything like what they were facing, and for most of them, that was true - at least in the last couple of years. And that is notwithstanding the fact that most of them are really good players.

That's why it is good that we got to be in this tournament, and it is why Klinsmann wants his players in the elite leagues.

It's a bad taste this morning, even though it was a good tournament. We made a nice run, beat some good teams, and looked good doing it. Then, Argentina came along and reminded us how big the gap really is.

Wondo has certain utility for the national team. He is a great poacher. He gets in position to score goals as well as anyone besides Dempsey, and (Belgium notwithstanding) he typically finishes them. That said, this was not the game to feature him. We needed someone with the technical skills to create and/or the speed to lead a counter, not someone who requires possession and service. We needed Morris. We needed Zardes up top with someone more possession minded in midfield. We didn't need a poacher.

The dream ended but I am not sad . The USA lost very honorably and We lost to the winner of Copa America. Messi is hungry to have that trophy on his cupboard. Argentina has everything : the best players; Metlife NY/NJ practically is home and the hunger to show that Argentina is Argentina - A futbol power.

I wouldn't write Chile that quickly. They are the defending champs and playing very well. With the US out at this point my biggest wish is for a competitive game and it looks like we are on track to get one.

Ok but how do you explain the fact that in the EPL many players are British playing against the worlds best but the English national team sucks

So on July 4, 2015 I watched the Copa America final on TV. I could never have imagined that less than a year later not only are the same teams lining up for another Copa final, but I will right there watching them live in the stadium.

*faints*
I'm looking forward to it too, but I will confess I listed my tickets at an absurd price. They probably won't sell, and that's fine because I want to go, but if someone is willing to pay me that much, well.....

So which team can I expect to have the most support in the final at MetLife ??

Should be a good game. Looking forward to seeing Messi in the flesh as well.
