I'm sure there is language permitting Concacaf to make this not worthwhile for anyone to attempt. Remember, the team that had to back out of CCL against the Revs got penalized, and that was because of an administrative error that im sure the club regretted anyway, not a deliberate attempt to skirt the integrity of the game.

Edit: of course mark beat me with the actual language!

different situations though, the haitian team wasn't up 4-0 or something against the revs and then backed out to qualify automatically.

It's great that we qualified, I'm ecstatic. I just wish we were more ambitious during our road games. Costa Rica plays a B team and we lose 2-0. We're in and that's all that matters, but we're not ambitious enough times. It's almost like the team doesn't believe in itself.

I'm pretty sure those teams are kept apart from both confederations, which seems extreme until you realize how limited the effect is. To start, Oceania only qualifies 0 or 1 team by the playoff. So the winner of CONCACAF and that confederation only has to avoid other CONCACAF countries.

That leaves just the ASIA - CONMEBOL playoff. The winner won't be in a group with anyone from either confederation. And that's it.
