USMNT Talk

This makes me happy.

the last time i took advantage of this kind of promotion, i ended up waiting over an hour for my free burrito. i wouldn't do it again.

YMMV of course.
I'm always amazed at the lines at Ben and Jerry's on free cone day. They easily stretch to a 1 hour wait or more for a $5 cone. The lure of "free" is strong I guess.

I've found a couple of really good previews of the Wales game - one a pod, and the other on the Athletic. Links are below.

They like to concede possession, bunker a bit, and then hit on the counter. Defensively sound and likely to play 5 in the back. Also very dangerous on set pieces. We can't concede the first goal here, or we may be doomed.

They sound like too many MLS teams.

I think this is the low key most important addition to the WC team. 1. Experience & leadership on a young team in one of the most important positions you want that. 2. His starting backline mate plays with him on their PL team (we usually only see this kind of synergy with German teams). 3. Most importantly, he’s the most talented/in best form choice for that position available in our pool. 4. Show‘s GGG is flexible in his approach to team building, I hope that carries forward with his tactics and we can drop this high press only shit that’s been making this team look like fools.

indeed. hope GGG chooses tactics that fit the players he has instead of trying to force a style we simply can't execute. Will be interesting to see.

Great breakdown by Brian Sciaretta. Not like I’d expect anything less from him. I wouldn’t be opposed to starting Aaronson over McKennie based on form. Or Gio in a false 9 with Pulisic & weah up top. And I’m getting excited that it seems it’s Ream next to Zimmerman. And they are going to move away from the high press bc GGG realizes they need to play different in the WC vs qualifying friendlies. CLB & USMNT have both performed well under him in playoffs/cup games. So I’ll remain optimistic Adam for now. Though reserve the right to call for his head if we don’t get out of the group.

ASN: Looking ahead to Wales: Lineup questions, form, and the strengths of Wales

Someone just posted my preferred lineup and made it look pretty. This is the way. Aaronson as super sub.

Wow. Looking at that XI and thinking a little bit of then and now. UEFA Champion's League teams represented:

2014
Bayern Munich - Julian Green
Players in top 5 leagues - 5

2022
Chelsea - Pulisic
Juventus - McKennie
AC Milan - Dest
Dortmund - Reyna
Players in top 5 leagues - 12

Then you also have Weah and Adams as recent transfers (loans?) from other Champion's League teams and Zach Steffan not even making the squad.

And John Brooks not even making the squad. Same with Tillman and Sands. Champions League players all.

Reporting from the match. Not about the play, but the cohesion and coordination and passion of the USMNT fans at the match pales in comparison to Wales. Their rendition of the Welsh national anthem and their signing in second half stoppage time gave me chills. Chills.

Thanks. I noticed the difference in the anthems but was not sure whether it had to do with mike placement or volume adjustment. How did te size of the US and Wales crowds compare, if you have a sense of that?
