So copa america is over for the US.. and all the talk now is whether GGG will get canned..

Was watching ESPN last night and Casey Keller brought up the US women's settlement, which I hadn't even thought about. He said even if they brought in a new coach, that new coach would need to accept the same ish pay or if they had to offer more money to get a top coach, they'd have to give the women's coach the same pay bump.

The federation will probably make a ton of money off copa america. So they'll have some money to spend. But I don't think they'll be willing to give the women's coach a pay raise just so they can attract and better mens coach.

What a debacle. All the more reason they will just convince themselves that GGG is the man for them, I guess.

I'm entirely convinced the US federation doesn't care about doing well, they just care about lining their pockets with money. And if we do well, then great.

perhaps they will care more when more of the population cares and mainstream media is putting more pressure on them like other countries. but that isn't going to happen if there is no real success with the USMNT

Really would have loved to see how that match would have played if the US were sitting on 6 points also. Cagey match? Aggressive? Uruguay would still have been able to play for the tie to top the group on GD, but it would have likely played looser.

Ah well. It's a fickle game.

I don't believe this is correct. The Federation paid top dollar to lure perhaps the best women's coach to come take the job. If they want to pay more for the men's coach, there is nothing preventing them from doing that.

Also, while the Federation did make a pile of money off the last Copa America, the deal with Conmebol is different this time around, and we will not be getting the same windfall.

While we're all wishing and hoping, I found this argument interesting. Personally, I thought the USMNT played much better under B.J. Callaghan because he let them run, press, attack and generally have fun wreaking havoc on the opposition. Maybe I watch too many Westerns, but I kept thinking of mustangs let out of the corral.

We need to lean into the exuberance of youth. Let the lads be a little wild. It's riskier and we'd be more vulnerable, but if we're going to go out, I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory than a lifeless flop.

Klopp doesn't do lifeless flop.

GGG is gone.

US Soccer is a joke. They better go big and try to get a top manager.
Source?

Edit: thank you mgarbowski mgarbowski . When I looked at the time Moogoo posted I couldn’t find it on any of the major news outlets (I’m also not on Twitter)

Am I the only one that thinks this is an absolute turd of an article? USMNT coach candidates: 10 to watch, including Jürgen Klopp | FOX Sports
This one is tighter.

Here's a name I'm not seeing a lot: Pelligrino Matarazzo. He's under contract for another year at TSG, and he's been living in Germany for almost 25 years. I'm sure he'd be a longshot if he's even being considered at all. He may not be interested in leaving the Bundesliga, either. But I'm surprised I've only seen him come up a couple times.

when i first saw this i thought the same.

not sure who they will go for, but chances of them picking someone the fanbase will be excited about is probably very slim. we need someone who will pick a team and use tactics based on our player pool, not have a system and force the players into it. here's hoping we don't embarrass ourselves even more than we already have by rehiring GGG after WC2022.
