World Cup 2022

I’m watching the Uruguay match and thinking if they go through, it’s still only 3 CONMEBOL teams in the round of 16. I feel like it’s just way too few considering the talent in S. America. Europe will have 1 team from EVERY group, total 8. Concacaf 1, Asia 2 & Africa 1. Maybe it’s time to finish what the Copa America Centenial started. Combine South America, Central America, & North America into a single confederation. Cut out the Carribean and let the get half a team like Oceana. T&T /Jamaica can play 6th place of Africa or something for a WC bid. No more rinky dink banana republic stadiums to play in for qualifying. Get around 8-9 teams in from the new FFA (Federation Football of Americas). I think it would do well financially for all the nations (also cut out possible bribery of Caribbean nations who voted against USA for 2022 WC, really cut their legs out from a power & money perspective like they deserve. I’d love to see what their TV rights go for without USA, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, even Panama involved.)

These would be the world rankings of the new 19 member FFA:

1. Brazil
3. Argentina
13. Mexico
14. Uruguay
16. USA
17. Colombia
23. Peru
29. Chile

31. Costa Rica
41. Canada

44. Ecuador
47. Paraguay
57. Venezuela
60 . Panama
74. El Salvador
80. Honduras
82. Bolivia
142. Nicaragua
176. Belize

With 8 seeds I still see USA continuing to qualify for the WC (in an expanded WC probably 10 of 19 teams), but really getting tested along the way. I also see the TV rights with Brazil & Argentina stars on US televisions worth a bloody fortune! This really makes too much sense, but we know it will never happen.
I love this idea. LOVE it.

i love the world cup drama!!!

but it's killing my bracket
I'm almost 50k spots behind you.
First 4 groups 595 points
Last 4 groups 185 points :D

Second chance bracket is open and presumably locks before the first game tomorrow morning. My picks for the final 4 have maybe a 1-2% chance of happening, but I probably won't have much competition if it happens.

If you like that, thought about it a little bit more. So with 19 countries, that’s a 36 match WC qualifying campaign that averages 9 matches a year (very achievable). That gets rid of pointless Nations League games and creates a League/Season that means something; WC Qualifying!!! Also, you have the Copa America every 4 years opposite the WC, just like the Euros. No more pointless Gold Cups either! This Copa every 4 years will be must watch TV! You use the previous cycle’s WC qualifying to break the nations into pots, with the 16th pot going to the playoff winner of spots 16-19 (almost like relegation!, promotion being the WC spots for the top teams & and an easier pot for the CA). The four groups each send 2 teams to an 8 team playoff for the Copa America. Below is a sample of how it would work with FIFA rankings instead of standings. Again, it’s so simple and works so well I can’t ever imagine it ever happening.

the group G results bumped my ranking up to #5054 with perfect picks.

just put in my 2nd chance bracket entries, which i thought I already did, but whatever. have argentina winning vs spain in the final.

My prediction for tomorrow is Reyna plays meaningful minutes and contributes a goal or assist.
One faction claims this proves he should have been playing all along; the other says he would not have been match ready if he played to much already.

Myself, I'm leaning more to the idea that we have a Jonathan Lewis problem: that GGG doesn't rate Reyna's defense, so he only will play him when we're chasing the game (which in a knockout could happen when we are tied).

Funny enough I have Spain beating Argentina in the final

Enjoying the energy from Dest and Weah. Not really seeing what Ferreira is providing. No one is playing very cleanly. The final pass or final strike just isn’t there

Edit: just as I hit respond, shit…

Well, that's that.

Have to be able to finish chances and be lethal. We just don't have that ability. We play well, but the final third. Oh, the final third.

two goals off nearly the same play. tracking that pull back pass.

i think we're just tired. we've barely had any rotation plus the emotional and physical drain of the Iran game. i think it's showing now.

GB has no choice but to bring on Gio at the very least. Get ferreira off. Not sure how we can get Gio and aaronson on at the same time. we need aaronsen's energy.

You can't expect to go far when you are scoring close to half a goal a game. You can dominate the midfield all you want, defend as cohesively as you want, and get all the chances you want, but none of the glory.

I kind of knew our only chance of winning today would be 0-0 in penalties.

it's a small thing... but how far does zimmerman have to keep backing up before he engages? it's like he's expecting adams to get back to do the job every time. i think it's killing us. he needs to engage and delay by getting a lot closer than he is .. at least make the ball carrier a little nervous
