I’m watching the Uruguay match and thinking if they go through, it’s still only 3 CONMEBOL teams in the round of 16. I feel like it’s just way too few considering the talent in S. America. Europe will have 1 team from EVERY group, total 8. Concacaf 1, Asia 2 & Africa 1. Maybe it’s time to finish what the Copa America Centenial started. Combine South America, Central America, & North America into a single confederation. Cut out the Carribean and let the get half a team like Oceana. T&T /Jamaica can play 6th place of Africa or something for a WC bid. No more rinky dink banana republic stadiums to play in for qualifying. Get around 8-9 teams in from the new FFA (Federation Football of Americas). I think it would do well financially for all the nations (also cut out possible bribery of Caribbean nations who voted against USA for 2022 WC, really cut their legs out from a power & money perspective like they deserve. I’d love to see what their TV rights go for without USA, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, even Panama involved.)
These would be the world rankings of the new 19 member FFA:
1. Brazil
3. Argentina
13. Mexico
14. Uruguay
16. USA
17. Colombia
23. Peru
29. Chile
31. Costa Rica
41. Canada
44. Ecuador
47. Paraguay
57. Venezuela
60 . Panama
74. El Salvador
80. Honduras
82. Bolivia
142. Nicaragua
176. Belize
With 8 seeds I still see USA continuing to qualify for the WC (in an expanded WC probably 10 of 19 teams), but really getting tested along the way. I also see the TV rights with Brazil & Argentina stars on US televisions worth a bloody fortune! This really makes too much sense, but we know it will never happen.
