Yankee Stadium Matchday Megathread

Two separate thoughts

1) I think it's possible the whole thing was media talk to begin with. Not saying a few yankees might not have had reservations but I do wonder if they were really bitching or if the Post and Daily news got scent of an angle during a slow period and asked leading questions so they could produce a provocative headline?

2) Seeing Texeria refuse to comment do you think someone behind the scenes had a word in his ear? Just thinking with the Yanks having a 20 percent stake in the team and money on the line the brass probably didn't like hearing players stir it up and this is a team that's been known to exert control over things as minute as players facial hair..

Yeah I think someone reprimanded Teixeira. The Yankees don't like their players causing a fuss in the media, his quotes got circulated a lot among soccer journalists.

The game against Philly last night was a real good time, but some interesting things to note

Vendors
They stop serving beer around the 70th minute (not sure of the exact time as I was half in the bag - can anyone confirm?) in certain locations, which I guess I understand, but it doesn’t appear to be a blanketed rule. Some spots will still sell you beer and there are guys walking around selling it in the lower levels. Had to piss around minute 75 and went to get a pretzel, but the kiosk was closing down and wasn’t selling anything – greatgrandwonderful

Language
The thing I was most surprised about was being told by the ticket/security guy that I had one more “fuck you” before, I guess, I would be tossed out – I know the code of conduct doesn’t allow for foul and/or abusive language, but it’s interesting to know that apparently there’s a limit and I had almost filled my quota – they should sell punch-cards at the in-stadium store (at an inflated price, of course) so we can keep track of our “fuck yous” – for instance, if you’re only allowed three, let’s call them strikes, before you’re out, then I would default to giving the one of my fucks to the ref and the other to the opposing team

Account Managers
Got to meet one of the account managers, Chris, last night which was pretty cool – he was very nice and I asked him to say hello to Mike M since he manages my account – I had heard they would come down to meet people, get a feel for the crowd, and whatnot, but it was still a nice touch, even in game three, that they were keeping their ear to the ground

Can confirm the beer bit at least. At the SKC game they were calling last call at 65 or so and I heard one of the vendors tell someone in my section that 70 was the cut off.

The cutting off of beer sales is pretty common. They stop after the 3rd QTR at Met Life and I believe the 7th inning at YS. Haven't set foot in the Garden in years, but I would imagine they too have a cut off time.

Ok everyone, let's start compiling a list of curses in other languages.

I've noticed with beer vendors it varies quite a bit. Some games I've heard it's over at the 65th, but in other games I've been able to get booze with no problem after the 80th. I think because a soccer game is so much shorter than what most of the vendors are used to, they don't give a shit and have no problem selling booze until they run out tbh.

Just out of curiosity, where were you sitting?

Meant to post this after the last home game, because I had not seen it elsewhere, but the beer stands near the supporters sections (Sections 235-238) stop selling beer when the second half starts. I was about to get served when a YS employee came over to the stand and made the server pour it out. It was tense for a moment because I had thought they stopped serving at the 70th min and I typically only have 1 beer during the first half, and 1 during the second. Having chosen to go to the bathroom first before getting a beer, I placed my beer order only seconds into the second half. The stated reason was that they are concerned about the bleacher sections being rowdy, so they stop serving earlier when the second half begins, and that will be in effect every game.

To his credit, I asked that he escort me to another stall where I could get a beer so I wouldn't be wandering around all half, and he let me skip the line so I could walk all the way back to my seat from whatever other level of the stadium we had walked to

This is from the YS website:
Bottles and Cans
No cans, thermoses or glass or aluminum bottles are permitted in Yankee Stadium. Exceptions are made for Guests with medical needs and for glass baby bottles at the sole and absolute discretion of the Yankees. Unopened soft-sided single-serve containers (e.g., small milk cartons or juice boxes), clear factory-sealed plastic water bottles 1 liter in size or smaller, and empty plastic sports bottles are permitted.
Does anyone know from experience if this means I can bring it an empty plastic 20 oz self filtering water bottle? With the summer weather games fast approaching and my seats not in the shade I'd like to stay hydrated without having to declare bankruptcy.

@ident42 ... I have brought either a plastic bike bottle, or collapsible plastic water bottle to every game. I will not lie to you some games you have to argue your way in with it - I take about 6 minutes for my bag to be checked because I have a frikkin bike multi-tool, a water bottle, and once i made he mistake of bringing my helmet in. Long story short it can be done, just be ready to quote the rules, possibly have them on your phone.

I've always been okay bringing in sealed store-bought water bottles. Not sure about what you are planning. If you read the rules, regular water bottles should be empty, which you said is your plan. Not sure if the filtering mechanism would be an issue.

I guess keeping the FAQ open on my phone isn't a big deal. This is the bottle

I might give an empty water bottle a go myself, I was able to get a bottle of soda with a cap the first game but haven't found a vendor selling them since. I had one of those NYCFC cups get knocked over saturday cuz there wasn't a top. Might try pouring the soda into the empty water bottle. I miss the days of sneaking beers into Shea.

This. I understand no caps. But give us kids please. There's like a gallon of soda in those things.
