I keep mentioning this. We are seeing Chanot/Callens/Tinnerholm in recent games really sluggish. Why not give Rocha, Ibeagha, Scally, Ring a run at the back occasionally to give those players a break? It's absolute madness.
Ring needs a break too. Nico and Scally need time. Ibby needs time and he'll get it this weekend. Not having Tavvon and Sands does decrease our back line rotation a bit, but it's definitely possible. Not doing it at all is just going to kick our ass later with injuries and/or tired players.

but i guess for Ronny, playing tired isn't "playing shit" requiring subs :)

I doubt we'll see much rotation going forward now that the congestion isn't quite as bad. But with the depth that we have at some positions, we really should have been able to give some key guys a bit more rest.

CB:
  • Ibeagha is capable of being plugged in to give Callens and/or Chanot a day off.
  • When Sands was healthy, that was also an option to slide him back and plug in Cacha, or slide Ring back (especially when Mitri was still here)
RB:
  • Scally looks to be a decent prospect, but the dropoff from Tinnerholm (mostly because of how good Tinny has been) would be pretty big. But still, up 3-1 against DC in the 63' and DC isn't even close to threatening. Take that opportunity to save some of Tinny's legs and run Scally out there. Or how about up 3-0 against Cincy at the half? Get Scally out there for the whole second.
DM:
  • Even if you aren't as hyped about Cacha as I and others are, I don't think you can debate he has some quality to at least give Ring, Parks, or Sands (when healthy) a day off, or at least a start off.
I thought Ronny rotated in both starts and subbing LB pretty well. Winger and striker have had their own limitations that I'm not sure how squad rotation could really have been incredibly helpful.

Ibeagha I forgot was injured until recently. I didn't know Cacha can play defense?

From my perspective, there are many players that can replace _one_ of the three defenders. Not all three, but definitely at least one. I can see Ibeagha + callens working well. I can see Rocha + Chanot being good, too. Rocha is a solid choice as well that I think does a good job in defense when needed. (or at least what I've seen of Rocha, anyway. Feel free to roast me for this)

rocha is terrible on defense. he's only serviceable as a midfielder and provides a good option for passing. when asked to do any true defensive work, he's just bad. he doesn't have pace to make up for his lack of defensive positional sense and he gets toasted every time. shall i remind you of minnesota last season when Dome had him at left back?

i like rocha. he puts in a good effort for the role he was brought in to play. but he is no defender.

Sorry for any confusion, I didn't mean Cacha or Rocha could play CB.

What I was saying, was during the congested stretch while Sands was still healthy. One option to give Chanot and/or Callens some rest was to move Sands back to CB, and have Cacha plug in at the 6.

Ah, I see. However now that sands is out, I can see Cacha, Rocha filling into those roles too if Ibeagha can't play. Not saying they'll be good, but I think they'll be serviceable.

I feel like we'd see Ring drop back before Cacha or Rocha. Or even possibly sliding Gudi inside and having Mata at LB.

It's definitely an interesting quandary what we would do on Saturday if Ibeagha or Callens were to get injured.

True, if bringing on rocha or cacha anyway and ring's on the pitch, it would make most sense for ring to go back and have cacha or rocha in the midfield where they belong.

...But this is Ronny we're talking about so who knows! We might just see Medina drop back

I think a lot depends on whether we have Maxi starting.

If Maxi starting, he can go with Ibeagha on the back-line, Ring as a D-MID, and a front four of GMS, Maxi, Medina, ITS.

If Maxi isn't starting, he's either got to put Ring on the wing or Matarrita on the wing. Which opens up either a D-Mid spot (Acevedo?) or a a FB spot (Gudi?).

Or, if he really wants to have an attacking player available off the bench, he has to put Ring or Mata on the wing anyway.
