2015 U. S. Open Cup

If an "alternate" squad is sent in minus villa then this won't end well.

I kind of expect an alternate anyway as this match is between playing Montreal at home and then going away to Toronto after the US open cup.

EDIT: also, since I read that pairings are done be proximity. Does this mean we are more than likely to play cosmos every year ?
It would seem that way. However, that would require the Cosmos to make it to the fourth round and not draw New Jersey Red Bulls.

NYCFC will play Jersey Express/Cosmos winner.

I remember reading this somewhere before the second round even began. It said NYCFC plays winner of Cosmos/New Jersey II or winner of Cosmos/NJ Express.

Our match on Tuesday, June 16 will be two days after we play Montreal at home and then we play at Toronto four days later. Therefore, expect a lot of subs to be starting. I don't think they'll risk playing Villa, or Mix, or Khiry, or anyone we like.

BUT Poku maybe will be starting. POKU POWER!

Obviously, I want to win the cup, I think it would be a cool competition to win since I think it's safe to say we're not winning MLS Cup this year.

I still think it would be a good opportunity to see how guys play who don't get regular game time, or to try out players in different formations and positions.

For example, I'd love to see McNamara get some game time, Poku starting, Facey at CB, etc. just to see if it would work in MLS play.

I'm not saying to send out the second team, but I think we should utilize the tournament as an opportunity for some new faces to see game time in different roles.

Honestly, why can't we host the match at Icahn Stadium or even Columbia? They're so much better options would be more more NYC FC than neutral sites.

Stupid, I know, but do Cup performances adhere to MLS roster regulations? Like, if he were here, could Lamps get some playing time?

Icahn only has 5,000 seats. Columbia has 17,000 so that's a little better, but it still may not be enough.

So apparently, New Jersey II's home arena is Columbia so we wouldn't be the hosts. Damn.

I'd rather put all our subs in the Montreal match. We have no shot at Supporters Sheild. And can always make playoffs with a strong Summer run. We don't want to get knocked out of US Open Cup by Cosmos. We'll never hear the end of it. Our 1st team needs to show up to Hofstra.

And that's how you know it's not going to happen.

I agree with that to some extent. For some reason, the USOC doesn't feel too importance in relation to the MLS season. But I really don't wan to lose to the Cosmos. If we have to put the top squad out there to beat them, so be it. I love the idea of getting some different guys playing time though, could really help us down the road.

The MLS Regular Season means very little. The goal is to make the playoffs. We can still do that.

I would prefer to win the US Open Cup and gain a berth into the CCL than make a push for Top 2 this year. Let's skate into the 5th or 6th playoff spot hopefully and see what happens. We're not as good as NYRB, DCU, NER or Columbus this year. Maybe we can beat out Orlando and Toronto for a slot in the playoffs. But we're not very good. If the Union can make a Cup run, so can we.

Agreed, I don't think we should take the Cosmos too lightly either. I would love to see different guys get playing time, but not necessarily at the cost of losing.

Why do you guys care about losing to the cosmos? If we play them no matter the result they'll still be irrelevant.
