2019 Offseason Thread

And I really don't think we should be comfortable with either scenario. We've had 2 CBs out quite a bit the last two seasons and have had a couple of occasions with 3 CBs out.

I agree with what others have said. This seems like a move based on his salary and wanting to use it for something else. $258K is a good wage for a 3rd CB - those guys will play a lot. Except, we have a really good 3rd CB in Ibeagha, who makes a lot less. The belief here is that they found someone else they really like who they can sign on limited wages to provide depth.

I also think this makes it a lot less likely we will play much of the season with 3 or 5 in the back.

Is there a 16 year old CB that's a US national playing on a B team in Europe somewhere? If so here comes a new loan deal.

I’m perfectly ok with Sweat as your 4th CB. I think he’s been decent there. You could argue he’s a better CB than a LB but that would be a 40 page pissing match.

The issue is that now you have limited cover at CB and LB if we get to that position.

Cap savings. (Rawls was another $69k, but not sure he hit the cap)

ETA, FYI the entire Cap is $4mm. And we opened up 5 INT spots.
Amagat was signed to $261k salary but he only hit it for half that since that’s all he was here for - I’d wager they knew he was never sticking around this year so while technically they list his full salary, him being cut only frees up $130.5k

My understanding is that he has a residency issue and I thought that was the reason his HG hasn’t been announced

Has Owusu been to Israel recently with his passport stamped? Maybe that's why he couldn't go on the preseason trip.
They don't do that any more. And I'm actually referring to 2 things: Israel doesn't stamp passports (you get a paper visa slip) and the Emirates won't deny entrance because of an Israeli stamp.

So you’re saying The Kingdom was a movie
Full of lies?

Even if they hadn't changed the rules I think we might have some connections at the top that would grant us any exception needed. Pretty sure they don't want headlines about denying entry to a player on one of their own teams for political reasons. That doesn't really match up with their global image enhancement via soccer club ownership propaganda agenda.

Updated. Also noteworthy that this is the most player actions in a given time we've ever had* - 7 actions in 10 days. We might not love all the moves, but we can't say it's inactive.

* Excluding November roster dumps and first year expansion draft.

Should probably add a Star of David for any players that are MOT.
