well new yorker born and raised but Mexican NT fan.

Bet is on.

How often do you get down there, if at all?

I’d like to visit Mexico City. My wife is finally on board but she’s worried about her safety. Any worse than being in Times Square on a Friday night?

assuming you referring to 80's 90's times square at night, cuz i think times square these days aint nothing like it was back then. though i feel not staying out late at night is common for any city. in late nycfc home games ive been staying in south bronx a ilittle longer than i should lol

as for mexico city i dont stay there as family is from other state I just land there. I have toured it a bit like 8 years ago, it also depends where you trying to go or stay. there are better neighborhoods for sure. a friend went for a few days recently and stayed a few days for the liga mx final games in december, but she stayed with inlaws so there is that.

Mexico City's safe to visit and, unlike Times Square, worth visiting. You'll have a great time.
Agree that it felt really safe but according to the locals I know there are still issues around taxis (use Uber). RE: food safety - just eat on the street wherever you see locals eating and you should be OK. Better than OK actually, shit is to die for.

Can attest to this as well. Spent 8 months there for work a couple of years ago.

It's like a lot of big cities. Just know where the bad parts are and avoid them. Will echo Christopher Jee Christopher Jee and suggest using ubers everywhere or the radio taxis that some hotels provide.

But Mexico City is amazing.

I fell in love with DF (Distrito Federal, or Mexico City) when I was there some years ago. If you’re into art, la Casa Azul (Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s house) has been turned into a museum. Hanging out in that neighborhoood (Coyoacan) was a favorite of mine. And there is a whole courtyard of multiple outdoor Diego frescos at the education building. Street food forever and ever amen

Issue with taxis is that you’ll be supporting the cartels. You’ll likely be safe but if you don’t want to support horrible people don’t use taxis.

Thank you all. Had a client that did two months there as a professor (nice life). Said he stayed in “old Mexico City” whatever that means. He showed me pictures and it looked gorgeous.
