Same people who didn't want us to get involved with Wayne Rooney are now Rossi fanboys.

I can understand a guy wanting to play for the team he dreamed of playing for since he was 2 years old. He grew up watching the Italian National team due to his parents heritage. I dont understand the hate at all. Sure it may suck, but he did nothing wrong.

I get it too. I was mostly kidding by calling him a "turncoat". Guy was in the Italian youth system from age 12 - notwithstanding that he grew up in Jersey. That's different than a guy like Jonathan Gonzalez, who went through U.S. youth systems the whole way and flipped when Mexico dangled the World Cup in front of him (and then pulled it away).

I think you can understand that the choice Rossi made was perfectly reasonable for him while still being annoyed as fan that he didn't choose the USMNT. I don't understand the argument that if the logic he used in choosing Italy is reasonable you can't hold it against him. If I was in his shoes I probably would have done the same, but I'm not, I'm a fan of the USMNT and I think it's perfectly fair and fun to consider him a turncoat.

simply talking about the national team hate.
Is that existing in this thread? I don't see that at all, unless you want to consider the post by gbservis gbservis above, but that would be extremely mild at best.

It seems to me that people here don't want him because he's older and has a large injury history.

theres a few posts talking about it.

Also, for clarity i wasnt trying to link it to the reason people may or may not want him on NYCFC. Completely seperate branch off discussion as far as i was concerned.

I don’t want him because I don’t think he can play 34 games of soccer at a competitive level - much less at a level where he should be paid significantly

My guesses...

Abdul-Salaam: Still under contract
Amagat: Option declined
Awauah: Option picked up
Bedoya: Option declined
Berget: Still under contract
Caldwell: Still under contract
Callens: Still under contract
Castellanos: Loan extended
Chanot: Still under contract
Herrera: Loan ended
Hountondji: Still under contract/Option declined (No clue with this one, maybe a buyout?)
Ibeagha: Still under contract
Johnson: Still under contract
Lewis: Option picked up
Matarrita: Still under contract
McNamara: Option declined
Medina: Still under contract
Moralez: Still under contract
Ofori: Loan ended (not purchased)
Ring: Still under contract
Sands: Still under contract
Scally: Still under contract
Stuver: Still under contract
Sweat: Still under contract
Tajouri-Shradi: Still under contract
Tinnerholm: Still under contract
Villa: Contract expiration
Wallace: Option declined

Considering the exquisite first touch of Khiry Shelton, Jo Inge, and others who have wore our colors, I would spend more than 68K on somebody with Rossi's talent and pedigree, so that he can relieve me from seeing those guys waste service, even if he cannot play 34 games.

I would personally keep Hountondji. We haven't seen him at all, but from what we saw him in that short period against RB, he looked a good backup. Ibeagha+Hountondji.

I also think they'll decline Awuah, he's been useless.
Oh, and they'll extend Tmac becase he's Tmac.

I think I would too, assuming he's recovering fine from his injury. He's also not all that expensive anymore as the salary cap has grown and the influx of TAM into the league has upped salaries. I'm not sure I would pay him this much back in 2015 or 2016 MLS, but 2019 MLS should be fine.

What use is talent if he's in a fucking cast all season?

Worse than the prospect of another knee injury is the fact that he hasn't gotten much playing time the last two seasons. Last year - after returning from ACL surgery - he made 9 of 15 possible appearances for Genoa, with only one start. The year previous - before his ACL injury - he made 18 of 28 possible appearances for with 9 starts. These only include league games, but the Europa League and cup appearances are consistent.

He's also been out of a contract since the end of last season, although some of that may be related to a failed doping test last May (for which he has escaped punishment).

I'd actually be quite happy if we got him for TAM, as there is potential for him to put things together, but no way does he deserve a DP contract.

ETA: According to the link below, he has been training with the Red Bulls while he tries to find a new club.

I forgot Andre Rawls, which I'll also put on the ?? list. Maybe another loan to Orange Country or a free transfer?
