I don’t think anything I’ve ever been told or overheard or was emailed, etc etc ever came from someone who is associated with our Academy.

As far as I know FredMertz FredMertz is our guy on the Academy and I take what he says as gospel.

A guy on Twitter said it would be great if our season tickets came with access to the Academy games. I told him that they are included with all plans because they're free. He flamed me.

Used the Youth tab on the NYCFC website then navigated to U-18/19 which led to the US Soccer Development Academy page, schedule is there. Most of their games are at Belson Field which is the soccer field at St. John's University in Jamaica, Queens. Pitch is recognizable as it is above a parking lot. Next to the baseball field and also near Carnesecca Arena (Basketball/Gym).

EDIT:
sundance sundance see this post.

You and I love the 4-2-4 chase the game formation though. I’ve always felt that’s our best formation since we dominate possession anyway. May as well score from it all.
less is always more when it comes to defenders, baby. Give me 5-3 every week over 2-0.

So GMS is available on a free this summer. He’s being coy in his interviews which leads me to believe he wants to come here but is holding out for $.

Is everyone here cool with a guy like that joining in the summer so that we don’t have to pay a nominal fee for him?

Guess it depends on how much room we have under the cap this season, along we _AM. A lot of that is use it or lose it.

I thought so. Although maybe it’s the Third Rail that does it
from this forum?
I believe NYCSC and Third Rail host events here and there to go root on the wee lads. I know they've gone to Belson for the U18/19 and I think they've also done stuff for Bronx FC* at the youth soccer field right next to Legends Park.

*No idea the actual youth club name

As per MLS roster rules, I am pretty sure any Homegrown signed qualifies as a domestic, regardless of their actual nationality. :)

From the site
https://www.mlssoccer.com/league/official-rules/mls-roster-rules-and-regulations

Homegrown International Rule
Any player who meets the requirements to qualify as a Homegrown Player as a member of an MLS club academy, either in the U.S. or Canada, or has met similar requirements as a member of a Canadian Approved Youth Club+, will count as a domestic player (i.e., he will not occupy an international spot) on both U.S. and Canadian club rosters provided that:

  • The player became a member of an MLS club academy, either in the U.S. or Canada, or a Canadian Approved Youth Club in the year prior to the year in which he turns 16;
  • AND the player signs his first professional contract with MLS or an MLS club's USL affiliate.
+MLS will work in coordination with Canada Soccer to identify qualifying Canadian Approved Youth Clubs that meet specific standards in relation to competition, environment, and coaching. These Canadian Approved Youth Clubs may or may not be affiliated with an MLS club.

Good find. This basically means a player has to have joined the academy during the year he turns 15 - or prior to that. Owusu was born in 2000, which means he would have had to join the academy in 2015 or before in order to count as domestic.
