It sounds like we are t really pursuing him but who knows with translations

Well, MLS website "why you should be worried" and "why you should be excited" entries for us hit hard:

It's jarring when you have this much turn over. We could conceivably end up with a better or more talented team but we don't know these guys and it might take a little while to warm up to them. The early season is going to have a really weird vibe .

Johnson met with Toronto over the weekend and went to the Raptors game Sunday afternoon. If he were committed to them they would have announced by now. I think he's still deciding or working the deals with both clubs against the other.

i dont think a big name will come. a DP level player will come even if not many will know name.
They didn’t say big name. Just “big”

The club has no plans to turn this into a rebuild season. I believe they are going to fill the holes well both initially and over the summer.

I think it's reasonable to assume they planned on losing some of these players (Tinnerholm, Acevedo, and Heber), expected Maxi was going to leave soon but were hoping for one more year, and wanted to bring back some of them (Callens, Johnson, and I'll put Santi in this category even though he was a loanee).

I would assume they lost more players than they were planning on losing and that it'll take more than one window to fully replenish the roster. I also think they will bring in good players, even if some of them don't arrive until April, May, or even the summer. CFG has no interest in any of its teams being also-rans. We have had one of the best rosters in MLS the last few years, and while we probably won't be in that category on Opening Night, I have full confidence we'll get back to that spot soon, perhaps even as soon as the summer.

I have a feeling they had a salary cap for re-signing players and were like, this is what it is, we will lose some or all, but this is the MAX for those.

And then we'll see one of Johnson or Callens re-sign with that cap in mind. Though they were probably hoping to negotiate both on lower-than dp deals, which didn't go the club's way.

Could be wrong though, but just seems likely.

If they were going to keep Sean and Callens, they would have extended them before we got to this point.

They’re gone.

In terms of a big European. That guy ain’t joining until July. Just remember that the regular season doesn’t matter and the club knows that. They still make us pay for early season tickets though.

I'm not so sure this is true in the sense that it's a given that CFG are going to build a team to chase titles every season. CFG have shown with Girona that they are okay with constructing a roster that will be mid to bottom table in a league. Girona was even relegated under CFG ownership. I think the end goal is likely to get Girona and all the clubs CFG owns into a position to compete for titles but they clearly are willing to prioritize resources and build slowly with some of the teams.

I just don't think it's a given that because we are owned by CFG they are going to restock the roster by summer into a championship-level contender. This very much could be the start of a multi-year rebuild.

There is some truth to this, although I am not as fatalistic as you.

The Club has typically been very proactive about extending players it likes. So, it stands out that there were no extensions for Johnson or Callens. Maybe the players were holding off in order to test their market value. Maybe the Club was unsure whether they'd be worth the price over the long haul. Maybe a bit of both.

I will be surprised if Johnson leaves, but Callens has more options.

Another thing is, for me, actions of the past do not predict actions of the future. (I feel like there's a saying for this, but I can't remember... lol)
Case in point, 2015 NYCFC vs 2018 NYCFC. Just because the team has done something one way in the past doesn't mean that's how it'll be forever.
